I think this would work if 1, the movement wasn't as mobile as cod, and 2, like you said, available only to one class, has a cooldown, and only one use
Parachutes have already been confirmed for helis as one-time use.
confirmed as in you get one from just being in the helicopter? or them being added to the game with helicopters. I'd hope the later, however I can understand having it only be accessible via the helicopter so people aren't jumping off high ground and leaving one up there/spawn beacon.
You get a parachute when you leave the heli, one use.
Please add parachute, even if it is a one use, make sure to be able to use parachute everything we are in a heli.
The reason they probably don't want to add it, is because it would encourage people going on helis and drop on enemies everytime. Without parachutes, the heli has to land or at least get close to the ground to drop people off, and in turn, making it less of a pain in the ass to deal with.
they should onlu be given to those who have entered a helicopter
if giving everyone a parachute would cause issues, what if it was added as a passive use gadget that youd have to choose in class selection, that brings up a button prompt when falling? (could still be limited uses too, fitting the role of a gadget even more)

Give it to the assault class, simple as that
If parachutes are ever to be implemented it should be something you unlock and equip instead of a backpack from the loadout screen.
It'd be single use per respawn and having it replace your backpack would limit the amount of ammo & medkits you can carry as a trade-off.
