#Classes in this game aren't really meaningful

Right now, I feel like the medic is the only real defined class. They are easy to distinguish and offer a unique benefit to the battle. Sniper, engineer and commander and vehicle players are "killers" that don't really.. do much else? (Other than RPG's helping to destroy cover maybe).

Pretty much all classes can do what all the other classes can already do. I can dropshot with an mp7 as medic or revive a player as sniper.

It makes the game feel like a meatgrinder, even on smaller scale servers. I'd love to see more distinction and variety in the current classes.

You misunderstood the point of classes.

  • Sniper is only one with snipers and snipers are only guns good on long ranges
  • Support has ammo drop and gun with 100 bullets, which no one else has that much damage per mag
  • Support can instnatly build any buildable (sandbag walls and hesco block)
  • Engineer has the fastest run speed (I thinK?)
  • Engineer has anti tank yes
  • Medic has healing
  • Assualt has access to riot shield (gimmick unless premade?)
  • Assault has small ammo bag
  • squad leader has DMRs (can have LOTS of magazines with certain vests)
  • Squad lead, Sniper, Assault have grapple hook, pickaxe, sledge
  • Squad lead and sniper have drone
  • Engineer and medic have SMGs
#

Did you know all of this?

#

The real issue that needs to be adressed is information about classes needs to be accessible in-game through the laodout selection menu

I feel like he was hung up on pure utility.

sage temple

That comes from whatever you value the most, which I think mostly is healing yourself for 90% people, so yeah medic is the best class for most people

quaint shuttle
#

Yup HyperXD

Engineer and Assault are both the fastest

quaint shuttle
#

Isn't Recon among the fastest? Or was that changed?

stable meadow

it's not anymore

it was pre armour update

quaint shuttle

💀

#

Makes sense, they're campers anyway. HyperXD

#

Could have 25% movement speed and it wouldn't even affect them.

marksman has the hammer which is cool

I like to run support cuz its slow but deadly

quaint shuttle
#

But all classes are deadly.

stable meadow
#

support isn't more deadly

#

it's just more tanky

quasi temple
#

That's why its deadly cuz its human tank

quaint shuttle
#

Not really.

#

Support dies practically just as fast, if not faster, if equipped heavily...because the TTK is low regardless, and a slower target is an easier one.

#

50% difference in HP and armor in BBR add up to a fraction of a second of extra survival time.

stable meadow
#

It is a very noticable difference

#

in the amount of fights I can get hit in and stull win

quasi temple
#

I don't run gun with support class...I just camp hard...when I need to run gun I use engineer.

quaint shuttle

Not getting hit > Tanking

as others have already pointed out, it's not really an issue about classes lacking utility. However, I do think there's an issue when it comes to incentive. Currently only medics get directly rewarded for playing their role. Snipers can light up the battlefield with pings using their drone...but they don't get XP for it. Engineers can repair vehicles...but they don't get XP for it. you get the idea. I think this is why a lot of people play the other classes as "kill" classes, they just aren't incentivized to use the utility that the classes provide.

@turbid heart say it louder! The devs are spending 2 days on silly cash game mode while not adressing those issues.

The classes have their purpose, but that doesn't mean they have to be completely locked into a certain role.

#

And why would snipers get anything for spotting with a drone? lol

#

It's already bad enough that they can camp in the backline and get any kills.
No one wants to reward them for not even getting into line of sight at all.

#

Engineer repair I agree on, though no one really bothers using it.

#

Partially because hopping out of your tank with randos around isn't worth the risk of losing the tank to a monkey.

#

Might as well just drive back to the next supply point.

# quaint shuttle It's already bad enough that they can camp in the backline and get any kills. No...

Because they're helping their teammates by pinging enemy locations. Rewarding spotting XP isn't some outrageous idea, pretty sure most games with a spot mechanic have a spot assist reward. BF does this really well by giving the recon class a lot of tools that reveal enemy locations and rewarding you well for using them. It gives snipers a reason to be assets to their team other than just do what you complain about and sit back and get easy kills.

quaint shuttle
#

Which has no realistic use in this game a anyway. 🗿

#

The pace is so quick, the spotting system so barebones, they still would be contributing nothing.

I think spotting is a bit more useful than you're giving it credit. Regardless, I don't think the response to trying to address one issue should be to say "well, there are other issues so why bother"...just fix the other issues as well. The fact of the matter is that the sniper classes unique utility is clearly intended to be recon, they can survey the map from really far away with their scopes and the drone is literally useless outside of flying overhead and pinging enemies. but using these tools isn't incentivized (again, this is an issue with every class besides medic, not just sniper). If there's the additional issue of making pinging more useful then address that as well. If that's not an option then give them new utility that does contribute to teamplay.

quaint shuttle
#

But again, none of this actually has any real practical use in this game.

#

That's only useful for actual tactical gameplay, which you plain do not have with those player counts.

#

People just run around and gun. No one gives a single shit about markers, especially because you don't know if it actually points at anything.

#

You'd have to make it an annoying pinging system like BF (used to have?).

#

Somewhat forgiving, somewhat following the target after the ping.

Oh the conversation is still going, sweet. Utility is indeed not the issue I intended to point out, it was an example.

If you gave assault players a sniper not much would change (except for maybe some hidden stats and armor types). This means that classes mostly exist for their exclusive weapons. At that point you might aswell make the "soldier" class and give them access to all the weapons.

I like Revolverheld's approach focusing on incentive. Incentivising snipers to be partial scouts who can provide recon, giving support more incentive to drop ammo and repair vehicles, perhaps give commanders/assaults additional squad points and faster capturing to make their role more clear.

I think an intuitive communication wheel to ask for heals/ammo/repairs/etc would also go a long way.

I am slightly upset my post caused confusion, I hope the developers will still consider looking into this. It would really enhance the experience for me personally. I've always loved the roles these types of games offer.
