#Make M249 useful for suppression.

In its current state the M249 just feels like a weaker assault rifle with higher magazine capacity, it doesn't really have any advantage over the Val, Vector, or P90 overall.

Snipers and people using faster ttk guns can just ignore your hail of bullets because they have the same or less recoil, and can kill you faster than you can kill them.

The bipod, which should be the attachment of choice for suppressive fire, is basically useless for it, spraying with the M249 bipod is still wildly uncontrollable, with the added bonus of forcing you to shoot from a bad position (center of a window, or prone out in the open). While a basic grip has comparable recoil and lets you shoot while on the move.

At worst, give the gun some better stats, let it contest assault rifles at range, support is already slower and less maneuverable, let that be the advantage other guns have over it.
At best, give us some battlefield 1 style suppression, make it harder for people to aim when their cover is getting suppressed by 3 M249's and throw some assist points their way when teammates take advantage of it.

im with ya on this one, the m249 is totally useless. Id love to see the weapon stabilizing get way better.

I use the m249 for suppression and long range bullet-hell dispenser and it works wonders even without a bipod 🥶🥶

I would oppose most things here and say that the M249 is great. People like to idealise this game and look at 1v1 ttk comparison, but I would say if you are consistently putting yourself in a fair 1v1 fight then your doing it wrong.

The slower speed and higher hp forces support to hold angles and spray down/suppress multitudes of enemies from a flank or tight angle. The 100 bullet mean I can focus on shooting multiple targets without reloading and giving up the advantageous angle I’m holding.

Having a ton of ammo in reserve with the ammo boxes, being able to resupply ammo and nades all day long give you a perfect class to carpet bomb cover and hold angles and suppress enemy positions.

I’m not saying I wouldn’t like to see some buffs, but right now what we have with support works.

#

Also the m249 has the highest armour damage from what I have seen at 50ish, compared to every other gun at around 30ish which is huge

Though I do aggree that the bipod needs a bit of a rework

Fix the bipod and maybe some more suppression effects. Because right now this is the bipod, and it's 100% useless https://youtu.be/1JPlSlePeZ0

# gaunt copper post some gameplay

I would, but I don’t record or have any gameplay saved. If I was to give you the top 3 strengths of the support/m249 it would be these:

  1. 100 rounds in 1 mag is kinda op in BBR. It’s like 10 seconds of mouse 1 action. In other games like csgo or siege or any other small scale game 100 rounds is way overkill but in BBR it is a heaven send and imo is 80% of the reason I play support, everything else is a bonus. So style your gameplay around this strength. Use cover, and great positioning. (Not necessarily flanking) to hit hoards of enemies running from cover to cover in the side.

  2. Slow speed subconsciously reinforces how I need to play. When I get onto medic or assault I tend to go, “oh I’m fast I need to rush the enemy” and I usually just get mowed down by hoards.

  3. As a base support you have 16 nades to play with assuming you resupply with the large ammo pack. You can also forget about running out of ammo so just spray all day and don’t drop your mags if you can help it.

On the contrary: it loses to most weapons in close range.
It is good at shooting down range, just slap a long barrel and an acog.

Bipod makes the weapon worse, go for vertical grip and plenty of vertical mouse clearence.

this could be why I haven't seen it do very well, Im talkin base weapon. Ill have to try it with some other attachments.

gaunt copper

so just a little playing around in the range, anything past 100m is pretty much garbage. If ya want close to realistic its effectivly accurate on point targets out to 600 after that it becomes area targets and full on suppression not really trying to hit a particular target. Given that alone the recoil is way off, regardless of the ammo perks and resupply. The other huge issue is how wonky the bipod is, it would be better to have the bipod lock instead of using what they have.

Different playstyle

#

Why did I say 6?

#

You can get 10 kills

#

You're gonna miss most of you bullets, but who cares?

#

Brrrrrrr

If you gonna use a ACOG might as well use a DMR or AK15, because you'll get more velocity, control and accuracy over the M249. On the M249 slap on a vertical grip, long/heavy barrel and a short ranged red dot, mod your gear so you carry max ammo crates(secondary gadget) so you can keep refilling ammo for both you and your team (slap down the crate at a place where people pile up, and USE YOUR MIC TO LET YOUR TEAM KNOW YOU PUT IT DOWN), now start spraying and gunning down everything, and don't worry to much about hitting every single bullet, suppression is your main goal (if you can suppress a couple of windows in a building where the enemy is peaking out, that will.... if they are smart.... make the enemy not shoot at your teammates from that area). also remember you can rush a point with hip fire and throwing nades at the same time, takes a lil bit of practice but soon you can start clearing rooms by throwing nades in windows and doors while shooting at the same time. Also reasons not to use bipod, makes you a super easy stationary target for everyone, the bipod is still poorly implemented and mostly only works if you lay down, and then a simple vertical grip gives about the same if you burst fire the weapon.

If you can't hit them before they hit you, sorry but then it's a skill issue, more suppression effect would help, but that won't help your aim.

wary sparrow

Yeah, I don't even know why this thread is a thing.
M249 is really good if you play to its strengths. If i can get first place and top kills by doing exactly what you guys say this weapon CANNOT do properly, then the "problem" is not on the weapon.
Want to complain about a weapon? Go make a post about the mp5 or the FAMAS or whatever, weapons that compete directly with the likes of the Asval...

But, I personally don't have that problem, taking on snipers at 200+ meters, the weapon is just fine, the only thing would be adding more suppression effect, that's it. Again, don't spray and pray, use 3-5ish round controlled bursts, so you can control the weapon better. on a regular day I sit at 30-40 kills pr game, and usually the highest points, higher than pro medics, remember K/D is not everything, playing your role is equally important, if your class can throw 10 smoke grenades and complete cover a hole point so your team can move up and take a point, then that's waaay more important.

wary sparrow
#

Depending on the situation

#

If I see a bunch of ppl out of cover I can just send 40 bullets down range and get 3-5 kills

sudden rose
#

Slap a few nades their way, and all is good

Throw harder HyperXD

#

Think imma record my session this weekend, and end this conversation. Again the only buff this weapon needs is a bipod fix and maybe add better suppression effect for high caliber weapons.

Eeyy something to watch on the way home

I remember playing on the new Oil Dunes and spraying at about 8 targets over 100m away and killing most of them, reloading and finishing the rest HyperXD

You don't even see what you're shooting at
