@everyone, we want to go into early access this year, however, there are a couple of things holding us up presently.

It’s well known, that all games reach their peak player counts at their release, and in a couple of weeks, or days, it drops by 50% or maybe more. Everyone tries once, the ones who like the game keep playing, and the ones who don't like it don't play again. That is how the gaming market is working.

1) SERVERS

We will face a lot of users in early access week, we will need a lot of servers in the United States, Europe, and Asia.

Solution:
We have found server companies that will help us in North America and Europe, however, due to bandwidth usage, we are still looking for server providers in Asia where servers are 12x - 60x more expensive. Similar prices are applied to Brazilian servers as well.

(Cloud servers are much more expensive as we tried and the bill was extreme)

2) DDOS ATTACKS

We are still receiving DDOS attacks on our live playtests, we just stopped announcing it as it became very common. We are expecting huge DDOS attacks on the early access.

Solution:
• We will use Cloudflare for our master servers and backend, however we can't use Cloudflare for game servers as we would go bankrupt (really) as the amount of bandwidth we are using is a lot.

• We are forced to create a custom DDOS protection/filter manually for game servers. Currently, we started working on one, but it's still not finished nor deployed, we will have to experiment if it's stable and bulletproof.

3) CHEATERS - ANTI CHEAT - REPORT SYSTEM.

It would be delusional to say we won't have cheaters. The game engine is Unity, which is one of the most popular game engine in the world, and there are a lot of tools out there that can be used to tamper with games that are made with Unity.

Solution:
•First of all, we have been using Easy Anti Cheat for a while, we realise it's not holding up to our expectations, therefore, we are still actively looking for another anti-cheat to replace it. However, Anti-Cheat software does not prevent cheaters, it makes it harder/longer for people to make cheats.

There are also some ways to make cheats harder in the game code, ie; server-side movements, more checks, etc, however, those are causing some performance loss on the server side and legit hit registrations would also be ignored from time to time, also less smoother movement, it's quite difficult to get them working server side, and still provide smooth gameplay. That will require time and iterations.

•I believe that the best anti-cheat is community moderation which is the report system and user-recorded clips sent to us.

The problem with the report system is that there will be people/groups/clans, who are abusing the report system and trying to get people timed out. I believe it's a serious problem as it prevents someone from playing the game. We will have to polish the reporting system so that a group of friends can't make a legit person get timed out so easily, yet a cheater gets timed out as fast as possible, as soon as they are reported by the community.

4) BACKEND

Recently I have reworked all the backend and now it handles a lot of requests very well, however, it's never been tested with more than 20k users, I do believe it will scale up to much larger numbers without issues, however, until we try, there will be no way to say it's stable and able to carry a lot more users. So, the backend will be experimental for a long time.

5) GAMEMODES - GAME CONTENT

• We love 127vs127, it's one of the primary reasons why we wanted to make a game like this in the first place. However, we know that smaller servers are also requested, as it's calmer and more focusable for the game mode. Before early access, we wanted to have polished, playable small servers/game modes as well, currently we haven't focused too much on smaller game modes, it's something we must do before the early access.

• We need more skins/weapons/armor sets for early access, and at least a somewhat good amount of content to keep the interest while we are preparing more along the way.

• We want to have** helicopters (transport)** available before early access, making sure it's polished (helicopter, game mode, and maps).

6) BUDGET - COSTS

Since the game became somewhat popular (early 2022), we have been receiving around** $10,000 per month from** <@&326819051177508865> . Before the game was less known, we were receiving around mostly $300 - time to time $400 and rarely a bit more.
Edit: We checked the patreon logs and we realized we were receiving mostly $200-$300 per month before game become populer, the numbers I entered above was incorrect

From this $10,000, we have been paying around $4,500 - $5,000 for servers just to get the 20k users playing on weekends, I have been taking $400-$500 per month personally to pay my bills, food, etc, (I used have a job but I left to dedicate all my time to BattleBit, <@&326819051177508865> are putting food on my table currently), the rest is being saved until now.

Our estimated cost for early access will be around $45,000-$50,000/month. (Game servers in USA,EU,AS + Cloudflare + Backend servers in USA,EU,AS + DDOS protection + Databases in USA,EU,AS)

This price will drop after we pass the initial player surge on early access, and only the remaining fans continue to play the game. ;

The problem is that, Steam holds 3 months of funds, before paying the developers, which means, we will have to survive with the budget that we have on hand during the initial load time (first 3 months of early access)

For the 3 months until Steam releases funds, we will require $150k (3 months) to keep the servers up, we have so far saved around ~$55,000 from Patreon.

Currently, we are planning to open the game to PRE-ORDERS somewhat soon, and save more before early access, we will take a loan if necessary to survive during the early access load.
At the time when Pre-orders are opened, the Patreon will be ended.

As much as we want to go early access this year, fixing all the issues in the remaining 3 months will be unlikely. At least a minimum of 3-4 more months is needed. That moves the planned early access date to March-April 2023.

--------- **What now, what is the plan? **---------

• Addition of new content (last 2 weeks, we have been focusing on in game content. 6 new weapons, riotshield, smoke grenade launcher and new armor sets and skins)
• We will start working on helicopters, make sure our maps properly support helicopters and add new gadgets to counter them so the gameplay is balanced.
• Hosting smaller game servers and game modes and start polishing.
• Continue developing the game-servers DDOS protection, deployment system and start testing.
• Continue development on the report system and the addition of more internal tools for our side to monitor.
• Start building FAQ and Help Centers and in game ticketing system for those who have issues (unable to launch game, game freezes at X point, banned in game, I want to appeal etc).
• Explore and test further Anti-Cheat solutions.
• Another content update and gamemode update before early access.
• Polish all of what is listed above and what’s currently in game to be Early Access ready.

The Early access.

Until early access, we will continue testing at weekends, time to time weekdays in small discord server and continue iterating until EA launch, where the servers will remain 24/7.

@everyone, after internal discussion with Valve/Steam to clarify the timeline of payments, we have been informed that, funds being withheld for 3 months isn't the case, instead it's a minimum of 1, and a maximum of 2 months. This is more suitable, giving us some relief.

So, just to be safe, we want to have** 2 months of server cost ready on hand**. We have ~$55,000 on hand already which covers the first month. We will require an additional $45,000 to secure the second month.

CHANGES TO PATREON

We’ve also been made aware that Pre-Orders for Early Access games or indie games are not a feature of Steam’s platform. This means, we cannot launch Pre-Orders through Steam Platform sadly.
So we want to convert Patreon as a way to fill the budget gap that we have to secure our launch. In case of if we can't reach enough, we will fill the rest our self.

• At October 1st, we will change the price for Patreon to $15 as it’s the game’s standard price but with the Patreon benefits. This will effectively function as a pre-order. If you are on a recurring subscription you will not be pushed up to a higher tier anytime.

Only one month pledge is necessary to receive a Key and all benefits. If you don't want to continue your subscription, be sure to cancel before the first of the upcoming month. In case if you are double charged unintentionally, you can write us to get refund.

For future reference, the Patreon may close at least a month before Early Access launch so we can ensure things go smoothly with the delivery of keys & activations.

We’ll revisit this topic and offer any necessary clarification during next weeks Q&A!

From yesterday's Q&A, a community member asked if we are using players as server/host while I was explaining why it's 127vs127 but not 128vs128 as it seems I sounded like we are using players as host/server.

The answer is, we are definitely not using players as a host/server. That would be leaking the user's IP to the public which has serious consequences and punishments.
What I meant there is, dedicated servers have 2^8 = 256 space/slots in total, the first slot is being used by the dedicated server itself (like a player but not an actual player), which leaves the dedicated server with 255 available slots. Since 255 is not dividable by 2, we do 127 vs 127, but can't do 128vs128.

Apologize for the misunderstanding, should have answered more clearly.

Hey @everyone!

We have some exciting news to share with you regarding BattleBit's official anti-cheat.
We've made the decision to switch from Easy Anti Cheat to FACEIT Anti Cheat. While this is very exciting for us, there is a small problem. While we would love to distribute FACEIT's server-side anti-cheat to our community-hosted servers, there are legal restrictions in place that prevent us from doing so. FACEIT prefers to keep its server-side anti-cheat private to keep it secure and not exposed, rather than publicly available for security reasons.

Therefore, we will continue supporting Easy Anti Cheat, allowing our community-hosted servers to use it. For Community Servers that would like to use FACEIT Anti Cheat for their Server, it is available only when rented from one of our partnered rental servers providers.

We'll be sharing more details about early access, playtests, events, and updates starting next week. For now, thank you all, and see you soon!

Due to concerns that we have been receiving from the community, FACEIT has disabled the secure boot requirement for our version of FACEIT Anti-cheat for both Windows 10 & Windows 11 for now.

This means that you no longer need the Secure boot option enabled to launch game with FACEIT Anti-cheat.

We received some questions related to voice chat moderation in our privacy notice, we made an update to our privacy notice, here I would like to share the changes with you.

We made it much more clear that;

  • We only store in game audio voice chat, not other application's voice chat data.
  • This is a feature user must opt in (default it opt-out), we DO NOT collect any voice chat data if user has opt-out.
  • This is a feature can be opt in/out anytime from in game audio settings.
  • We only collect this data during user using either (Local voice chat, Squad voice chat, Squad leader communication voice chat)

Here's a quick report on how early access has been progressing and our future plans!

First Week

  • It was smooth; we didn't have too many server issues. There were routing issues across NA-EU-AS, but with player reports, some of them were resolved.
  • We received a significant number of DDOS attacks on all of our servers continuously, some of them literally a day long, however, we were prepared beforehand. Our firewall caused sporadic packet losses here and there, but no major issues arose.
  • We were able to focus on Quality of Life improvements, new content, and bug fixes.

Second Week

  • A determined group of individuals who previously failed to take down our servers found a weak point in our firewall and started attacking any server they wanted using this weakness. They also started DDOSing content creator's servers to inflict as much damage on BattleBit as possible.
  • As a result of these attacks on our game servers, our server scheduling system also malfunctioned (e.g., 900 people waiting in queue, etc.), which significantly affected our development. We had to focus on collecting attack data, analyzing it, and working on fixing this flaw in our firewall.
  • We did not want to make a public statement alerting other people who had failed to take down our servers about this flaw in our firewall until it was patched.

Conclusion

  • We patched our firewall yesterday, monitored the attacks, and confirmed that the weakness in our firewall is indeed fixed in NA-EU-AS-AUS.

Future Plans

  • Continue bug fixes and add more quality of life improvements.
  • Recruit a team that specializes in detecting cheats and weeding out possible cheaters. (We have other long-term plans for non-rage cheaters but will announce them later on)
  • Add new weapons, gadgets, maps, and remakes of existing maps.
  • Introduce new game modes outside conquest.
  • Start introducing community servers with dedicated game modes, maps, and tweaked game mode rules based on the admin's preference.

Old School - Classic Capture The Flag, but, with 254 Players!

Conquest is nice, but it's overplayed. We want to experiment with classic game modes with larger player sizes, and make them work. More on this topic shortly.

------- Week 5 - Quick Recap -------

Hey @everyone, here's what's happening, and what you should expect from BattleBit in the near future:

1) Community Servers!

Our primary focus this month is to work on bringing community servers into the mix and creating API access for server admins. This will allow them to customize server settings to their preference.

Here's what you can expect from community servers (should server admins choose to host one):

• Sniper-only servers
• Pistol-only servers
• More competitive, hardcore servers
• More arcade-style, less milsim servers
• Flight school servers
• Ace Of Spades-style voxel servers (Yes, we have this feature! It's currently not public and is reserved for community servers.)
• Clan servers
• Other servers according to admin's preferences...

2) New Game Mode Implementations - Revisiting Existing Game Modes

  • Our old school, one of our favorite gamemode, Capture The Flag!. We're experimenting with how this mode will work with 254 players, and it will also be playable on 64vs64 and 32vs32 scales.
  • We plan to make additional enhancements to Frontline as we are not completely satisfied with its current state of development.
  • After Capture the Flag, we plan to experiment with the King Of The Hill game mode in future updates.

3) Reworking and Introducing New Maps

A game update was pushed recently, new map and gamemode is available now!

Game changing class changes - Map reworks - Weapon balance changes - Community servers update and further more...

Hey @everyone, I will be giving short brief what was changed over 2 weeks on update 2.0.0!

1) Step towards class balance;

After a long discussion, it's apparent that the medic is the only class capable of enduring more than one fight. Other classes cannot survive a second fight after being shot. Consequently, making other classes very unpleasant to use, based on this point:

  • Players that are not medic will now be able use bandage to heal themselves regardless of bleeding, gaining +40 HP each time bandage used. It is up to the player to decide whether to use it for healing or to stop the bleeding. (Stopping the bleeding also provides +40 HP).
  • Assault will have further weapon/armor access (see #dev-wip message and #dev-wip message)
  • Engineers and Support players now can deploy barbed wires (see #dev-wip message)
  • Engineers will receive further points for destroying vehicles than other classes (see #dev-wip message)

2) Step towards weapon balance

  • KrissVector was nerfed (see #dev-wip message)
  • ACR was buffed (see #dev-wip message)
  • AK5C is more useful (see #dev-wip message)
  • SG550 slightly buffed (see #dev-wip message)
  • Aim punch/flinch will exponentially scale down based on damage received instead of pistol on leg and sniper on chest giving same aim punch/flinch.

3) Progression changes

  • We realized progression steeps too much at higher levels and prestiging just not worth losing all that effort. Based on this point, leveling up will ease after level 15 to keep it consistent time to level up, prestiging will have it's own benefits (no weapon/gadget unlocks but other things)

4) Map remakes

  • District completely reworked from ground up.
  • WineParadise completely reworked from ground up.

5) Community Servers / API

  • The base community API is ready, this week, we will have couple servers testing it before it's further publicly available.
  • There will be 1 - VOXEL 24/7 gamemode server hosted for testing purpose (You can only join via server browser, quick match will skip those servers)

6) Other relevant updates

  • Auto squad locking for parties removed.
  • RCB90 added
  • Further quality of life improvements

Roadmap update:

BattleBit Remastered has chosen to stray away from using a roadmap at this time. This decision allows the development team the flexibility to address emerging priorities, respond to player feedback promptly, and make dynamic adjustments without being constrained by a predetermined timeline. Right now, we are working on a way to create a more balanced expectation and better transparency between the community and Developers.

Internal Restructure:

To ensure that BattleBit Remastered continues to deliver an unparalleled gaming experience, we have been undergoing an internal restructuring this month. This revamp is aimed at optimizing our processes, enhancing communication, and fostering a more collaborative and friendly environment.

Improved Weapon Skin Customization:

Prepare to take customization to the next level! We've overhauled the weapon skin customization system, allowing you to fine-tune every aspect of your arsenal. New Update Schedule:

We're introducing and working on a revamped update schedule. We learned from the past year that pushing updates weekly wasn't the best option, as we had little to no time to actually test them out properly. With that being said, expect a more streamlined update process with content, optimizations, and surprises. We are already working on new ways to collect feedback from those in-game as well as storing more stats to better help us understand our player base. With the help of @main charm we have created an alpha interaction of an event map and mode making community game nights a little more interesting. This is our largest map yet and here's the kicker, it's a Free For All frenzy. Plus, we've fine-tuned several settings to amp up the excitement:

Round Time: 30min
Kills For Bounty: 15
Medic, Assault, Support and Engineer have 10 extra primary mags and 5 extra secondary mags
Snipers have 3 primary extra and 8 secondary

Achieve the feat of eliminating 15 players, and you'll find yourself the target of a bounty. Taking down a player with a bounty on their head rewards you with a full ammunition replenishment, plus bandages. Remember, this map and mode are in their alpha stages—consider this an exciting opportunity for us to refine and evolve the experience together.

In addition, we're reaching out to our talented community. If you have experience with the BattleBit Server API and are itching to craft an engaging gameplay experience, we want to hear from you! We're offering the chance to host your creation on an event and server, specifically for those with experience managing 256-128 servers. Note: This opportunity is limited to a single server.

We would also like to clear some things up pertaining to this.

First, this application does not mean this is the one and only way we are going to get feedback. Social platforms are still a great place to provide feedback, and we intend to be more actively engaged there. We will be posting more official discussion threads before and after updates, dev casts, etc. This is something we should have been doing more frequently as it’s an acknowledgment that we are actively listening to you.

Secondly, the Feedback Group is more of a focus group. Members of the group will be asked specific questions by the devs that come up in development, better informing decision making during the process. This is different than our social platforms like Discord and Reddit, where we look for new ideas from the community as well as bugs and issues. We intend to frequently rotate this group of people to allow members, of all of our communities, to feel equally heard. We learned from our mistakes with the previous feedback team we setup and are looking to improve the way we run it.

We understand that in game feedback would be a great feature, as our players well, literally are playing the game. We do not have this at the time. It’s something we have acknowledged and are working towards. It’s something we learned and as the game continues to evolve, we also are learning new ways to improve many things, not just sound.

Lastly, we understand this update has taken some time. Players have been divided for months about the sound update. The amount of feedback and issues we have received has been acknowledged. We are actively working on this. Why it was not reverted could be pointed to many of reasons. But at the end of the day, it’s something we learned and are improving on.

In conclusion, we are a small development team, trying to make a fun and interactive video game. We’re doing our best to learn and improve everyday with how we interact, communicate, and update our game. We are still in Early Access and the game will frequently see updates that may seem dramatic maybe even outright crazy to some.

The Battlebit Remastered team thanks each and every one of you for your continued patience. Rest assured, we're not going anywhere.

(I want to make it clear this is not the expected date for the update, this is a completely different and separate event.)

Devcast 26 is now live! Here is a small summary from the devcast:

  • Animations were re-worked due to the new audio not matching the old animations
  • Every gun has to be worked through 1 by 1 to fix its animations
  • Attachment and weapon scaling are being adjusted. Previously attachments had to be rescaled gun by gun, that has been fixed.
  • New improved guns sound
  • The goal is to stabilize player numbers
  • Small updates won't save the game, temporary bumps help but it goes into wasted effort without huge changes that establishes a baseline of players.
  • Looking to improve the tutorial also looking to incentivice players to learn the game via early challenges
  • We don't want the game to be a clone of battlefield or squad
  • We want to make decisions for the game to be made on "does it make sense for the squad based shooter"
  • A lot of mechanics are unused/useless because its faster to just respawn
  • Combining mags is a neat feature but not useful because dying and respawning is faster. REVERTED
  • Bleeding was added to slow down the game but it doesn't do so effectively enough.
  • Squad spawning is a problem, making spawns longer is not a solution as it punishes new players even harder.
  • New players and player retention has to be eased into to not scare players. The goal is to help players understand what is happening so they can figure out of the game is a good fit
  • Regarding barbed wire, it takes too long to place, there are too many ways around barbed wire for it to be worth investing in.
  • Fix the new player experience, market the game, add competitive mode for dedicated players.
  • Competitive mode after current big patch, oki wants milsim not competitive, so he will need additional perspective
  • Jumping is visually more smooth in first person
  • The red barrel visual does not impact weapon performance at all, in any way.
  • Get the gun feedback to be more satisfying
  • When sniping, holding your breath will reduce ambient audio.
  • Mp5, unica, honey badger, as val, scorpion evo, ump, msr, aug audio showcase.
  • Secondary bug when switching to pistols not having their animations play has been fixed.
  • Desert eagle firing animations no longer block vision.
  • Unicas animation is being better aligned with the shooting, where you aim is where the +bullet goes instead of out of the center of the screen when Aiming down sights
  • Suppressors will more directly impact weapons sound.
  • One of the reasons for not as many MGs was because of the old animation system.
  • Lmg belt animations prevented new lmgs from being added. It's been fixed
  • In this update recoil while ads is lowered with the trade of damage over range
  • TTK increase and damage over distance is changing to better define guns. LMGs can counter snipe a sniper and that should happen sometimes, but not the constant lasers from every weapon.
  • ADS recoil has been reduced (where scorpion evo is usable to the average player), but damage fall off is being reduced.
  • New rpg sounds.
  • Rockets iron sights are being adjusted to try and increase visual clarity
  • Reduce the amount of environmental destruction (not a lot just enough to not obliterate buildings)
  • Environmental destruction from explosions is being reduced, maybe 30-40% reduction in wall destruction.
  • Final pass being made on all weapons but in general it is done
  • Larry working on attachments:
    ACOG , Aim comp, Kobra, Holographic, Holo pk1, Red dot, new pistol red dot, 6x, 8x, 15x, 20x, 40x (not done), Elcan, Strike Fire, Razor, +About 6-7 scopes left do do

Lastly, certain elements of sounds are possibly being excluded from sounding too real. The theory behind this is because we have 254 players which could create too much audio clutter. But we'd love to hear your input on this.

Development Update

I'd like to start this off by clearing some things up and correct some misinformation going around. I'm sure you've seen it by now "the update is 50% done". Footsteps are half way done, just like our communication. So I'd like to clarify, the update is definitely more than halfway done by now. From here on though, we are making changes to our devcasts to better relay information to everyone so we don't continue down this road.

Now... onto the bad news. We don't have a real ETA as of right now. We would like to give you an ETA as soon as we can, but I think we are all in agreeance that we should not give an ETA until we are certain that we can and will actually reach that time; instead of making the same mistake that we made before by saying that it will drop in Februrary March April. I know that this is not what you all wanted to hear, and I would have much rather been telling you something else, but we are making every effort to complete the update as quickly as possible.

We originally planned to drop the update in April, as most of you have seen. To make this possible, we would have to scrap several of parts of the update and delay them until the updates after. We realized that by doing this, we would have to take out certain parts of the update that are simply too important to leave out. If we're to eventually release an early update like that, at the cost of not delivering what you expected from us in such a long timespan, it would be truly disheartening. We need a little more time to ensure that everybody has a good time.

Now onto the Devcast 27 summary:

  • We were waiting on the sound studio to send the rest of the footstep audio. I can confirm that we just received the additional 50% of the footstep noises and can officially move to the left leg
  • The current health indicators such as blood splatter do a poor job of communicating health to players.
  • Frag grenade indicators are going to be added to increase mid combat clarity
  • Last week the gadget animation systems were reworked, the tandem has a new running animation.
  • The scope reticle will move more rapidly within the lens of the scope while still being accurate under sustained fire. DMRs and powerful weapons will have more visual intensity then the rest of the arsenal
  • M4 sounds closer to the classic weapon
  • Short range scopes have been fully finished and Medium range scopes are completed excluding the ACOG.
  • The flir scope will be more visually clear when toggled off and or out of battery
  • Reticle customization will be included on the loadout page but it is not yet done, reticles will default to green
  • We're also adding an audio cue when players slam into the ground from heights.
  • The current patch is focused on player retention changes and needs to be well tested before releasing to the public.
  • This update will be tested and we will look to approach new/returning players as well as experienced players to get feedback
  • There is no current estimate for testing, we will look at release dates again as we approach the test window.

Also little up date on the devcast:

Unfortunately the Devcast scheduled for this week has been cancelled. There are several reasons for this decision. Firstly, Mother's Day is this weekend, and we recognize that many of our community members/staff will be spending time with their families to celebrate this special occasion. We believe it's important to honor these personal commitments and allow everyone the opportunity to enjoy the day without conflicting obligations.

Additionally, I personally have been unwell recently, which has impacted our ability to prepare thoroughly for the Devcast. Ensuring the quality and content of our updates is crucial, and given my current condition, it would be challenging to deliver that.

Audio Updates

  • Footstep audio is completed
  • Footstep have real-time sound pathing
  • Running, jumping, and vaulting all have audio now
  • Sounds will path through the closest opening
  • Footsteps of friendlies will not be as loud as enemy footsteps (more of a gear jingle)
  • Gun sounds will change directly based on distance
  • Gun sounds do NOT path like footstep audio
  • Audio changes should have a very small impact on performance; only memory impacted
  • "Breath-in" sounds for snipers
  • Sniper trails are now 1 second from the personal perspective

Performance and Optimization

  • Server side stabilization fixes are coming.
  • The ability to disable shadows is removed, as it was creating an unfair advantage over those who had them enabled. Shadows can now be adjusted to improve performance based on current hardware

Visual and Indicator Updates

  • Player and enemy colored lights on helmets and equipment are more pronounced and distinguishable
  • If there is a player within 20m, an indicator will show if they are friendly or enemy (line of sight dependent)
  • If a friendly is within 20m, there will be an indicator regardless of LOS
  • Party/squad/steam friends will always have an indicator

Weapon Updates

  • Smoother shading on updated weapon models
  • MAG rework confirmed: stat changes, not just models
  • New model for the Vector
  • Slowly improving the quality of weapon textures to bring them all up to the same quality
  • Currently working on the SG550; Famas planned for the future (TBD)

Map Updates

  • Wakistan is getting reworked based off community votes followed by a new map inspired by old Namak
  • A playtest of the new map will be available in the next update
  • Full release of the map for the update after the next

Additional Notes

  • More optimizations have been made to keep overall performance around the same for most players
  • Strike fire is now a 1.5x scope

Exactly one year ago today, BattleBit launched into early access. What a ride it's been! We're grateful to everyone who has joined us on this adventure. We know there have been concerns about the future of BattleBit as some have observed shifts in the gaming landscape, but we're gearing up for a turnaround.

We've been saving our pings for the big update we've been working on for the past eight months, all while keeping our heads low. While some might think it’s the perfect time to release it, we're still fine-tuning it to ensure it meets your expectations. This update is not just any update — it's a game changer, designed to provide a refreshing experience and a better-balanced environment for a 254-player shooter game, something the game has aimed for since its release.

A whole suite of changes including time to kill refinement, graphic reworks, UI updates, quality of life improvements, all new sounds, and more are almost ready to playtest. Here’s a heads up ahead of time on what’s coming.

The first playtest is scheduled for November 29th and will last four hours. See below:

Test overview

  • The test will be four hours
  • We’ll be playing on Kodiak, Mesa and Valley, switching via map voting
  • You will be able to vote for either day or night time
  • All weapons and gadgets will be unlocked (every weapon will have roughly half attachments unlocked to start, the equivalent of 100 regular kills per weapon)
  • The Quick Match and the Shooting Range will be inaccessible
  • Your live stats will not be affected by playing in this playtest
  • Playtest progression will not be retained if you leave and rejoin a server
  • We will have in game buttons to submit feedback and report bugs

How to download

Anyone who owns BattleBit Remastered will be able to play in the playtest by switching the game’s version to the “beta - Operation Overhaul test” version via Steam. This will download and update the game to the Overhaul version so it launches normally through Steam. Once the test is concluded, you will need to switch back to and redownload the regular version of the game to play on the live version servers. We will provide a guide on how to switch to and from Overhaul on the day of the first test. The playtest build will be available to download right when the test begins, so if you have slow internet, be sure you start your download right away.

What’s next?

We will have more information available the day of the test. Normally this is the part where we say “something something soon™”, but this time all we want to say is thank you for sticking with us. We know it’s been a long time coming, and we’ll see you November 29th.

Operation Overhaul’s first playtest is now live! Jump in game now or within the next four hours and test out completely reworked audio and visuals, as well as a revamped time to kill, UI improvements, and more. We will have more tests (times TBD) during weekends after this one. For this first test these are the areas where we are looking for your feedback:

  • New map Mesa, night lighting, redesigned layout on Valley, Kodiak improvements, updated prop art
  • Audio rework that improves weapon/explosive sounds and increases awareness for enemy footsteps and gunshots
  • Weapon rework including time to kill adjustments, class availability, attachment stat changes, and gadget tweaks
  • Movement rework including new stand-to-prone and crouch-to-prone animations, mid-air turning sensitivity, increased vaulting speed, and new “tac sprint” feature (faster sprint usable for a short period)

To make this process as easy as possible, we’ve added in game buttons that will take you directly to a bug submission form or feedback form. They are located in the main menu, end of round screen, and pause screen.

How to access the playtest

  1. Right click BattleBit Remastered in your Steam Library
  2. Select “Properties”
  3. Select “Betas”
  4. Use the dropdown under “Beta Participation” to change “None” to “beta - Operation Overhaul playtest”
  5. Go back to your Steam Library and select BattleBit Remastered
  6. Select “Update” if it does not automatically download
  7. Wait for the update to finish
  8. Select Play

Playtest FAQ

How long is the test?

The playtest session will last four hours.

Which maps will be available?

You'll be playing on Kodiak, Mesa, and Valley, with map changes determined through map voting.

Can I choose the time of day?

No, only day time. However we will manually switch some servers to night time.

What weapons and gadgets are available?

All weapons and gadgets are fully unlocked. However, each weapon starts with roughly half of its attachments unlocked, which is about the equivalent of 100 regular kills. You can continue to get kills to unlock more attachments.

How do I join a match?

Use the server browser. Quick Match and the Shooting Range are inaccessible during this test.

Will this affect my live stats?

No. Your live stats will not be impacted by anything you do in this playtest.

Will my progression be saved if I disconnect and rejoin?

No. Playtest progression is not retained if you leave and rejoin a server.

How can I submit feedback or report bugs?

The game includes in-game buttons that allow you to easily submit feedback or report bugs at any time.

Will my keybinds be transferred?

You will have to rebind your keys as they are not able to be transferred to this playtest.

What’s next?

Following the playtest’s conclusion, we’ll review your feedback forms, bug report forms, Discord feedback, Reddit, and Steam Discussions to see how you’re liking everything and what needs improvement. You are also free to record, stream, screenshot, and share any game content on various platforms. Be sure to fill out the forms, and we’ll see you in game!

Important Hardware Note

As a result of Overhaul’s graphical and technical improvements, the min spec for BattleBit Remastered has changed:

  • GPU requirements went up due to the new graphical upgrades
  • CPU increased because of the expanded audio and destruction systems
  • Memory usage also rose due to the large amount of new audio and the optimized destruction and lighting features.

Our intention was to keep things at the same level as before, but that ended not being a realistic goal.

Here’s a quick debrief from our playtest on the 29th of November: Right now we are mostly focused on fixing the performance side of things as well as finding that middle ground for TTK. There are still plenty of other areas we are looking to improve based on the feedback we got from this test such as the ping system, field points and night time gameplay. Until we have a firmer idea of what those are going to look like, we don’t want to go into too much detail about those just yet.

Our current plan is to run those performance playtests with you to help us fix the memory leak and framerate issues. Once that’s sorted, we’ll do our next open playtest like this one to continue tweaking and gathering gameplay feedback.

Select the <@&1450178448298475520> role under id:customize to get updates on and join in the performance tests. We don’t have any word on when the first performance playtest will be, but stay tuned and watch for pings within that role to stay updated.

By the way, this will be replacing the “Tester” role. We made this a few years ago but ended up not using it. We don’t wanna rename and repurpose that role though because we don’t want to suddenly ping all those people, plus, we need to make clear that this testing is purely about performance at this time.

Today it has been decided that I want to completely rebuild/remaster BattleBit for Build 100. This means that developement will take a lot longer than expected, but in the long run it'll be well worth it for Steam release. During this time of developing the remastered version of BattleBit we will no longer have a public build available to play, nor will we be supplying anymore beta keys. This new build of BattleBit is being made directly for Steam; meaning that the BattleBit launcher will no longer be in use. We are very sorry for this unexpected announcement and we hope you guys are patient enough to wait for a better built game.

Hello everyone. I just wanted to give you an update on current development. I'm still working on improving my english, so I'm having some friends help me write these updates.

Currently we are planning to release an early access version of the game around August. This won't be the full release of the game, but will be enough to get people excited and to start promoting the game. We currently have deals with multiple Youtubers, so when the public build releases we should have a huge influx of players.

The current release phases look like this:

  1. Closed Beta
  2. Open Beta
  3. Early Access
  4. Full Release

Closed Beta will start soon, and we want to keep it at around 1-2 weeks of testing. After that we will release a FREE PUBLIC BETA for everyone to test and play. This will be around 2-4 weeks of testing and playing. After this, depending on what YOU want in the game (and how much time it takes me to make it) we will go into early access.

As many of you know Battlebit is still very early in development. It is only myself and Vilaskis working on it, and we're a very small team. I've been doing a lot of thinking about this, and I've decided to not give exact release dates anymore. I want to make sure we take the time to make the game the best it can be, and not rush to meet any deadlines or dates. Hopefully everyone understands this, because we want to make this game the best it can be. Sometimes we can't say how much time that takes!

Besides this, hopefully you all believe in Battlebit and our future. We really love our game, and we think everyone will like it a lot too. If you want to help support us, and our development, please stick around and be ready to help test our beta! Otherwise we hope the game will be out as soon as possible!

Hey lads,

As you may have noticed, #general (now #battlebit-eng) has been blown to smithereen. This was due to a gradual increase in non-BB related conversations and hostility inside the channel. We see this as the only viable solution to set the community (and consequently ourselves) straight again. From now on, we, the staff, shall increase our vigilance inside the server in order to keep the channels on-topic and appropriate.
We will also impose the 3-strikes system (warning, kick, ban) on the basis of common sense, on top of the existing #314417130932142081 rulebook.
Skipping straight to kicking/banning is up to the discretion of the staff members, like always.

#2. The date of release for BBR has been pushed back by... quite a few times. Now before you throw rotten tomatoes at us, Mr. OkiDoki had been preparing for exams this month and needed time off the project. He cleared the tests with impunity though, so development of BBR has resumed per normal, albeit slightly slower due to school being school.

I am here to announce something we decide to do for BattleBitRemastered.
We realized BBR went so much hardcore side. The game is so much complex for our community player base. That's why most of the new players get confused about the game and left in a quick time.
We decided to go more casual type (Battlefield etc) which is you are a super-alone wolf soldier. Which is, the game doesn't require a REAL teamwork and faster than the current one.

The hardcore Gameplay is more like ARMA - SQUAD which is you are limited like in real life. Stamina - bleeding - shooting - teamwork- a lot of patience etc.
And at hardcore, players can not play as alone. A teamwork required to succeed, to do something in the game.
Hardcore is more complex for most of the players, you need a real experience and patient in the game to be a success.
Hardcore is for 17-40 years old people mostly. People who have patient and likes more realism.

Casual Gameplay is more like Battlefield - Cod or other most of shooter games. Gameplay is faster than hardcore. You spawn, kill, die in 2-3 minute and spawn again. A teamwork is not really required to play the game. It is less complex. You can see the objectives on your screen. You really don't need to play as tactical to be a success. You can shoot the weapon like a toy, it is not like real life weapon shooting recoil.
Casual is for 8-25 years old people mostly. It's not complex, easy to play.

So, at BBR we wanted to try, make something new.
LOW POLY - HARDCORE!

There is no LOW POLY hardcore game in the world. We wanted to be first.
We developed BBR about 8 months with no stopping.(BBL took about 8 months either) => total = about 2 years of work on BATTLEBIT PROJECT
End of 8 months of development, we went to open beta.
And the result was horrible for us. We really couldn't get many players on it. I blamed my self that game is not stable, there is FPS problems, network problems, server restart problems etc.
And 2 weeks ago game get a real stable state. Network glitches were gone.Servers were restarting their own self.We opened 18 server 6-6-6 in 3 different regions. The result was shocking to me.
We couldn't get many players on it.
So I spend a time to think why battlebit is boring for people.
And then I realized the battlebit's gameplay with game's graphics does not match.
Hardcore people do not play Blocky - Low poly games mostly. And our game is low poly.
The people who come here to play Battlebit is mostly casual players
So the people who comes here to play battlebit gets confused about how to play when they actually play the game.

So to make battlebit great again we decided to make battlebit casual more than hardcore. We wont be going to FULLY casual but we wont be close to hardcore as we are now.

I have to announce that we are going to wipe all current databases this week, as I have realized the current weapon kills are on the client-side which means with a simple source edit, it could be changed easily.

For EA we are thinking about 2 versions of BattleBit. (It's not 100% going to happen)
The first one is free. In the free version, the stats won't be saved. Free players won't be allowed on all of the servers.

The other one is paid which will have full access to everything in game (NOT pay to win)

Since the Weapon-Kill-Counts decided by client's, it can be exploited with simple source changes. So for the players who paid nothing, they would be able to unlock every attachment at the start without playing, with simple edits.

Dear Person's in My DM's who keeps asking me when the Servers will be online,
I do not know the goings on in Okidoki's head and if I did i would surely go mad. With absolute sincerity I would lose what grip on reality I have if I even attempted to tap into the being of Okidoki's mind. I do not know when there will be a Play test nor do the other staff for we fear for our sanities and yours too. Do keep in touch though in case something goes horribly wrong.

Hey Guys so if you haven't Noticed the feature already You can look at the top of this window next to the channel's name and hit the Follow button. Doing so will allow you to receive any news and Notifications that we put out on this channel, LIKE SERVER STATUS', in any servers you're an admin in with webhook permissions for as long as you assign a channel in your personal server for the messages to go to.

Apologies everyone for the down time yesterday. Discord relies on the Google Cloud Platform, which at 11:55 AM (US/Pacific time) reported a migration issue and stated a diagnosis of: “Seeing High IO wait times, failed IO operations, or IO Operations taking over 2 seconds to complete”. As of Sunday Dec. 8, the Google Cloud Platform has returned to normal operations. No further issues have been reported at this time.

Well, that's unknown. Basically we can't (I can't) predict a specific time for those stuff because I am taking my time while building the game.

Hey all! As the world falls into a new pandemic and many countries start declaring states of emergencies or putting in lockdowns, we hope you are all staying safe! Do your part and socially distance from others. Although COVID-19 has shown little signs of greatly affecting younger people, we must remember that we can still be carriers and we can infect people older and more vulnerable than us. We must do our part, wash hands with soap, wear gloves when outside, avoid touching your face. If you think you have COVID-19, DON'T go to a hospital, call your country's hotline and have them setup a screening. If you have a cough, wear a mask that is at least surgically certified (N95 if you can still get them). Don't panic buy, buy just enough to stock for 2-3 weeks. Remember, at times like this, the most vulnerable to the virus are also the most vulnerable while shopping or going about everyday life. Don't consider the closure of schools and offices as a "holiday". Don't go to places with a lot of people like beaches, ski resorts, cinemas, etc. Stay healthy and FLATTEN THE CURVE!

Hello everyone, as of late staff has noticed there's been an ongoing flood of scam attempts to try and hijack steam accounts directed to many people inside our server, mods included.
It appears that the strategy is to make you think that a group of people has accidentally mass reported your account due to them thinking you were the guy who scammed one of their friends. After that, they'll try to obtain your credentials through phishing attacks, disguised as recovery/support systems to not loose your account.

It is painful and sad to admit that, we don't have active USA players 😧
At this point, running the game servers at the USA time zone ends up with a very low amount of players in the lobby.
For that reason, we decided to turn off the servers at the times when USA server suppose to be online.
However, we are willing to extend the Europe and Asia playtimes depending on the player count.

End of BattleBug Remastered weekly playtest event ✨

This playtest taught us a lot of lessons. Now, we are more aware of what has to be fixed, changed and added to the game. (Anti cheat, gameplay issues, balance etc)
We will working on the game for 1 month and starting another playtest at Feb 20 that will last 3 days (until Feb 23).

Another update is that, we have decided to delay the community made servers for the moment.** We are planning to let community to host servers after early access.**

And the playtest will last until Feb 23rd, 3:00 pm (GMT).

Also to clarify some rumors, playtests/Open Beta is free. However, early access will be $15 (USD). For countries who have massive inflation and currency conversion rates this might be reduced a few dollars in recognition of the inability to afford a lot of things.

@everyone, I owe you an apology for f*cking up the EasyAntiCheat implementation. I don't believe the issue is on EasyAntiCheat since many game is using it without an issue. I believe the implementation I have done has some flaws that causing this issue.

Right now, me and as team, we are definitely not enjoying seeing you guys needing to restart the game every one hour. And the truth is, I have no idea where is the problem on Easy Anti Cheat implementation.
Instead of keeping this playtest up with a broken game, I will be ending the test for now.

We will be creating a small private test group(QA) to test the game before going larger public playtest.
The next playtest will be in 2 - 4 weeks depending on how well the fixes goes.

We will be keeping you updated regarding to next playtest time 😟

After spending several hours attempting to debug the issues regarding EAC and some other bugs, we believe we found a fix for some of them. However, these fixes, as we mentioned before, has to be tested on a grander scale. After careful deliberation and consideration internally, we have decided to restart the playtest. All your feedback is valued and we can definitely see that you guys would like to play the game.

So we're booting all the servers up right now. Please don't forget to verify integrity before you start the game so you don't receive version mismatch error. During the test, please bear with us if you encounter any issues. For any EAC related issues, please report them in #945086533726253156 with proper information. (How long have you been playing the game before the issue started? Is this your first round? Have you disconnected/rejoined at any point? etc.)

Once again, I would like to thank everyone for your interest in BattleBit Remastered.

Hotfix Changelog

  • Fixed clan tags not showing up when a player rejoins a server.
  • Disabled FFA/Gun Game gamemodes for larger map sizes and player counts.
  • Server Browser countries have been adjusted to show where they're located properly. (United States is not located in South America)
  • Experimental fixes to EAC implementation, hopefully fixing the "Multiplayer/EAC Verification" issue while spawning in-game.

Known Issues

  • Voice chat sometimes "loops".
  • Players can sometimes fall under the map. (Please report this to us with what happened a few seconds prior in game-mechanics-bug-report)
  • Error No Response Code 1 (This error appears when the server is overcrowded, we're currently investigating.)

We have received a lot of feedback, and we will do our best to sort through and examine it all! There was so many of you that played and shared your suggestions, so it will take sometime! Patron QA tests will begin this weekend and continue throughout the month of March. There will be multiple/individual tests that are meant for Oki to identify issues and fix them. The team cannot guarantee start or end times of each test, but will give as much of a heads up as possible. We'll create a channel to report bugs and feedback accessible to <@&326819051177508865> role. Additionally there will be an info channel with instructions on how to join and how to properly help us test.
This will not be a 24/7 server, it will be one server that is activated when necessary, the test time will be from 5 minute to 1 hour depending on what needs to be tested.

@everyone We are bringing the servers down for maintenance. We had more players than we expected, and it is causing various stability issues. We are working on a possible hotfix and will keep you updated!

@everyone We are pushing back this final public playtest to another time that remains to be determined. The current build has some major issues that will take awhile to address.
I am aware all of you have waited, sadly the current build isn't stable enough to be playable.

I will be letting you guys know when next public playtest will be.
