#Setting up a custom modpack with server
41 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
I'm, confused. So start from the server page?
The guide was saying to use SFTP, but won't let me log in to transfer the files over
SFTP is only needed when the files are big.
Zip up the folders, upload from through the panel, unzip.
My suggestion was to start with the ready-made BMC4, then just add/remove mods to match your changes instead.
YES, that's what I was trying to figure out how to do, but I think the guide was on how to do it from scratch!
The guide is, because most people aren't technically savvy enough to tweak a pack as big as BMC4.
Ok, so by transfer the folders, I'm assuming its the "sub folders" from the curseforge folder? In here?
Yeah, tbf I got used to modding with Oblivion back on windows Vista. had to be savvy or it would explode XD
The guide says what folders to move.
Just because you're doing it a different way doesn't mean it's a different set of folders! 😀
Ah, right right gotcha! So follow the guide along to the folders specifically, then upload the missing mods until the server matches what I currently have?
I am minorly autistic, and VERY tired, so my brain might be not working at its best right now
If you're uploading your copy, follow the guide.
If you're starting with BMC4 through the panel, just make the same changes to the server that you made in the local copy that you in the other players will be using.
So if you removed five mods and added three, remove those five mods from the server and add the three along with any extra mods that those three may require.
If the only thing you changed was say, resource packs or shaders or added a mod that only goes on the client because it changes something visual then you don't have to change the server at all.
Gotcha. I did add some mods, but didn't remove any, so it should be pretty straightforward. I'll follow the guide.
Though I'm seeing some issues, one of the folders it says to transfer doesn't exist
like the journeymap
Not all of them will.
And actually, journeymaps folder shouldn't be uploaded. The guide must have gotten goofed up during an update.
Ah ok. I was gonna say I only have 3 that can be transferred out of that list! XD. Ok will keep informed!
Since you're uploading based on the client pack, you're also going to get a bunch of errors on the first startup. You're going to have to go through the errors to find mods that don't go on servers and remove those from the server side. Things like mods that do shaders since servers don't have a GPU or a screen or keyboard or a mouse...
Roger that. I might need some help on what to look for, I'm terrible when it comes to breaking down error reports!
I'm happy to search myself, just need to know what to search FOR
It's pretty straightforward, start at the bottom and read up until you find an error message that calls out a specific thing. Usually most of them will say something about a screen or being on the server or something like that.
Ah ok. One last question. What happens if I try to upload a jar (mod folder) that's already on the server? Would it duplicate? Or just not transfer?
Don't upload folders - zip folders, upload, unzip.
IIRC, unzipping will merge folder contents and skip duplicates.
Ooohhh....Yeah that won't work XD there's over 400 mods XD
15 years of dev work, I've never seen a browser handle a folder upload with more than 10 files inside without silently missing files.
Hmm, so how to get this to work
so compressed the mod folder is 1.19gb, so I need the SFTP to work, but its requiring a password i never set
It's the password you were emailed in the welcome email with the other panel info.
AH the email I didn't check, got it XD
Hmmm...saying password denied. I'll try to change the password
THAT worked, got it. will fill in if anything else goes wrong
We did have a crash, from the bottom, the first thing mentioned that looks like an issue is this line
"Mod File: /home/container/mods/continuity-3.0.0+1.20.1.forge.jar
Failure message: Mod continuity requires fabric_api
Currently, fabric_api is 0.92.6+1.11.14+1.20.1
Mod Version: 3.0.0+1.20.1.forge
Mod Issue URL: https://github.com/PepperCode1/Continuity/issues
Exception message: MISSING EXCEPTION MESSAGE"
directly under that it goes into system details.
Did I do it right? Or are there more errors potentionally above t hat one?
Also two crash logs were generated from the single launch command, not sure if that's normal?
Ok, so I need to delete the fabric Jar and upload the one required by continuity, but I don' see the specific version.
I see where it says the current fabric_API is listed, but not the one it Wants
So I'm fully stonewalled.
The server is saying that Fabric.API isn't working, but I've installed the most recent one for this version of minecraft, because of a mod called Continuity, which is a requirement for BMC4. I'm at a complete loss as to what to do
