If you already know everyone that's going to be playing on your server, you can add them all at once.

What list are you referring to?

The playername, would be their in game playername. You can look at the player's tab in the panel to see what shows up for veryone's names that have already joined before.

If you go to the file manager (Files on the left-hand side) you can peek inside the whitelist.json file to see everyone that's already whitelisted

It would be whatever your Minecraft username is

When you chat in a Minecraft server, whatever your name shows up as, that would be your username

Typically if you get this message it means that the Mojang authentication servers are down. Usually that issue gets resolved pretty quickly on their end. 💙
