#Issues connecting to a BisectHosting based Vintage Story server from Europe

Howdy Y'all.

I recently joined a Vintage Story community that's being hosted on your service (at least as far as I can tell by doing an IP lookup for 216.225.145.4

On this specific server I go from having a bit of an occasional hiccup to constantly being in a connectionless limbo for 1-2 minutes at a time, then a sudden update from the server and back into limbo - in short completely unplayable.

On a whim I tried connecting through a US Based VPN service instead of directly here from Denmark, and suddenly the connection was smooth sailing.

Are you aware of any routing problems on your end? Seems very excessive to have such long periods of just... no communication with the server, instead of just having a high latency but otherwise a "smooth" and consistent experience.

I wish I was kidding too. It's just a constant limbo experience 🙂

If its a publicly hosted server, i'd take it up with whoever is hosting it, as they would be the ones that have to contact Bisect about any server issues to diagnose.

Yeah I also reached out to their staff for help, but figured I might as well try here directly as well, since there was a Discord and all. Could be a known issue. 🙂

Most of the time, staff can't do much unless prompted by the owner of the server, or admins that were invited tot he correct panels by the owner

Using a VPN to fix it does lead it to routing issues, but an MTR should catch those. @woeful tendon Mind tossing me your email via DMs (or a screenshot of something said in the chat) so I can go peek at it?

Sure thing.

Got the email, ty! Can delete that msg if you like its off my end 🙂

#

The email you gave doesn't seem to route to any active billing users (and due to that, no active chat we can pull) ~ What I'd recommend is turning off your VPN and running an MTR to the machine, once you have that; toss it in for our team to check out 🙂

!mtr Steps are here for the MTR:

How to provide an MTR:

  1. Download the following MTR software: https://bisecthosting.com/clients/downloads/WinMTR.exe
  2. Where it says 'Host' type in your server's IP (without the port)
  3. Click the 'Start' button
  4. Wait for the very first number under the 'Sent' column to reach at least 500
  5. Click Stop
  6. Click the 'Copy Text to Clipboard' button and paste the results into a Pastebin (http://pastebin.com/) and provide us with the link.

Ah yeah - I'm a player ON The server, I am not one of YOUR customers as such 😄

#

I'm reaching out on both ends to find out what could be the cause.

You'll need to have the owner give it a whirl then with an MTR you make 👀 but they can reach out abt it!

Alright that's fair. I'll wait for them to get back to me on their end. Thanks 🙂

Without you owning the server there isn't much we can suggest, since a lot of info is theirs to have not the players hah
