Updates from mod devs normally appear in the JAR menu after a day or so
Last time I had an issue, it was on my end, and because I was not informed that something wasn't working right. As you can see in this [comment](#1327076563325554708 message), it was stated that it would take a few hours, not days. If I am to expect it to take days for the update, then this feature is useless. I get the manual review process, but if it is this slow, then I may as well just manage all the files directly instead 🤷♂️
So I am also just reassuring myself, that I am not waiting around for something that wont happen, because something is wrong again.
You can upload it yourself if you want, or make a ticket and have the support get the latest version
yea just seen that comment hopefully wont be long then
I will probably just ditch the jar menu stuff, cause having to wait hours or days on something I need to do the same day is kinda annoying.
well as long as you know how to do it, why not? saves waiting
Technically, the JAR menu solution doesn't even solve the problems I was having, as you still need to make extensive backups, and re-introduce mods that you added manually on top of what is in the modpack, if I remember right, so yea, I guess it is ok for people setting up their first server ever, but for me, it is severely lacking, oh well.
Dragon Claw Persistent v2.8.5 (MC: 1.20.1) is now available in our Minecraft server control panel. said this at 22:24 so thats interesting
Welp, that's nice, haha
I was keeping an eye on the changelog, but since I saw nothing relating to my modpack, I figured I might as well poke :3
2.8.5 is there now
I just also don't want to bother BH staff directly, cause I also get why they might be busy with other stuff, than checking for modpacks all the time
well dylan is here now lol
You quite literally need to bug us directly if something isnt working 😅
Like if it passes even a day, please please contact us
Nobody here can really explain the situation, theyre just gonna send ya to tickers
or bug CJ, her job is talking to you guys xD
Is it there for you dragon?
Yes, it is 🙂
ok good 😄
Alright, I will remember that being a bit more direct is okay, I guess part of it is not knowing what the threshold for what to expect being reasonable is. But just to be clear then, next time I update my modpack, and confirm it is working in a test environment after being available on Modrinth, is it okay for me to "bug" one of you directly to ask to get it checked on your end?
Its not okay to just randomly DM a person that works here to handle it, but if the build is stable and its been more than like 3-4 hours; totally can send in a ticket to get it bumped
Right, I was also thinking ticket. 3-4 hours is a bit much for me personally, I was hoping if it was more than 1 hour, given that I update the live server on the same day the modpack is updated.
Unfortunately us getting every update out within an hour just really isnt realistic as of now 😅 3-4 is the general average currently, 1-2 hours being if its a slower day and staff have plenty of time to work on them as they come in
I get the reasoning, just explaining why its that type of window
Gotcha, so I wasn't completely off the mark when it comes to you guys being busy with other stuff 😉
Ah yeah the support staff (who run tickets) handle updating JARs as they release, theres always time alloted to handle them its just in 3-4h periods so people on tickets dont get flooded hah
I assume also so that you won't have to do 1 at a time, cause then you never get to take a break or do something else, at least that is what taking orders at a restaurant is like xD
Usually in batches of 2-3 at a time, but yeah generally hah
Alright, welp, ima get out of your hair, thanks for the insight 🙂
Dylan and I have had some discussions on Modrinth packs specifically maybe possibly someday offering all versions live from Modrinth since they have an actual server pack standard.
But I have no idea if it will ever go beyond the theoretical backroom technical naval gazing. 🙂
That would be cool
You can also manually do it.
!custommodpack
It would be cool, though they only check if your pack violates any copyright issues, not if it will actually run as a server, that's on the pack author. My main issue with the BH Jar system rn, is that it completely replaces the mods folder contents, deleting any additional mods that were added on top, so if you use something like Simple Discord Link which also relies on its own library mod, you have to manually re-add those 2 each time you update the server pack, which is rather annoying.
My experience with Modrinth, is that it only does this with the Config folder, where you have to make backups of your local configs, but at least this is the only one that gets completely replaced, anything else is additive, so if you install your own mods that run client side, they aren't touched. For reference, there are a good handful of mods that can run entirely server-side, so just something to think about.
I also noticed after I updated my server, that the Open Parties and Claims mod was affected, where the alliances that had been tested out a few days ago, are no longer there. I have not had the chance to look into where those are located yet, but it would also be pretty bad if other folder/files get completely deleted when updating through the BH modpack JAR menu. It's a separate issue though ofc., but thought I might as well bring it up.
