I just bought a server because my aternos server was too laggy and slow. I have downloaded my old world from aternos and followed the youtube tutorial on how to upload custom worlds into the server. I did everything accordingly and the server just will NOT start. I need help. I switched everything back to the original and the server will start but not when I switch to my world I am trying to bring over. Please help me.

Apparently there's a few youtube videos that are out-of-date enough that they lead people astray. Please check this article to see that you followed the correct steps: https://www.bisecthosting.com/clients/knowledgebase/61/How-to-upload-a-custom-world-to-your-Minecraft-server.html
And I recommend that you check your server's log files; they often have useful messages explaining why the server is stopping.
give me like 30 minutes and ill let you know
In the video when he unarchives the file the file no longer becomes a zip, when I do it. It stays a zip. do you think this can be an issue?
The zip stays and the contents are extracted
so when I name my level after the zip do I add the ".zip" to it or just name it whatever it is minus the ".zip"
Your minecraft server won't even see the blah.zip file. It will see the folder/file that has blah
For example, when you upload and then unzip "MySuperMinecraftWorld.zip", there will be a folder created called "MySuperMinecraftWorld" that has all the files needed. When you then go to the server panel, you need to tell it what folder to look at. (Also, use the same lettercase; I don't know if it is that finnicky, but best to not tempt it.)
I finally got it to load but that was not the world I was trying to upload.
Computers are extremely fast idiots. They will do exactly what you tell them, regardless of what you actually wish them to do...
so should I just keep retrying
also quick question and sorry if im annoying but int the form you sent me it says "An FTP client is required to transfer files over 500mb onto the Minecraft server. Follow this tutorial to learn how to use an FTP client." what does this even matter? I have already downloaded the file and it downloaded using winrar so idk if thats an issue at all or what...?
If the file is on the server and unzipping, then you can skip that.
Like MDD said, computers don't think for themselves - that folder name has to be exact.
Case, spaces, everything.
And the world has to be inside that folder, not in a folder in the folder in...
do you think I could get into a call with one of you or something and I share screen and you make sure everything Im doing is right lol
FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a very old protocol for moving files. It is older than the web; quite possibly older than you. It is still used when moving really big files because most web servers (which is what you're interacting with on the "server panel") will choke if given a file to upload that exceeds their input limit. So what that section of guide is saying is: "the Bisect web server has an upload limit of 500MB. If your Zip file is bigger than that, then you need to use a different tool to upload the Zip file and that tool needs to talk FTP. Once the Zip file is on the server, then keep following the steps."
Let me just tell you everything I'm doing step by step and every detail I can include to see if I am doing anything wrong or if you can assist me.
-
I am downloading the world from Aternos to which it is automatically in a zip file
(That file leads to another file which has the actual world in it)
[exp. file name is Goon.zip you open the zip and theres a folder named "world" to which when you open has all the contents of the world in that folder] -
I open the Files tab on Bisect.
-
I drag the Goon.zip file into the files tab and let it upload.
-
I Unarchive the Goon.zip file
(It stays named "Goon.zip" and the file picture to the left of it still shows its a zipped filed) -
I click the Config Files tab to which under it server properties pops up and I click and open that tab.
-
I find the "Level Name" setting and replace whats there by default "world" with my file name "Goon" Minus the ".zip" part as I was told to disinclude.
-
I attempt to start the server and join.
After step #4 you should see a folder appear called "Goon"
That has not happened, it continues to be named "Goon.zip" nothing about it is changing
even if I unarchive it multiple times it stays with the zip
so does it matter that the zip had the main folder "world" under the zip btw?
I think it's (the "world" folder) supposed to be like that. But someone like Juul or Ceridwen would know for certain.
I find it weird that your Goon.zip isn't unarchived.
yeah idk I can send a video if you need or something to show you
I don't know why I've double and triple checked for it but it wont
Hmm it might be how Aternos built the Zip. If you unzip it on your PC do you get a "Goon" folder with a "Goon" folder within it?
let me try
when I extract it, it becomes "Goon" folder and then when you open it, its still the "world" folder
OK so when you unarchive that on the Bisect server, you will see the Goon.zip file and (new) "world" folder.
I think you need to rename "world" to "Goon" (and then put "Goon" in the server panel). But this is something a wild guess on my part.
so you want me to rename the folder inside that is named "world" to "Goon"
I mean you could, but I'm suggesting that you've already unarchived the Goon.zip file on the Bisect server, and when you did that you got a "world" folder. So I'm suggesting go rename that "world" folder to "Goon", put "Goon" in the server panel, and then see if it starts.
wait you might be cooking
i deleted every "world" that was made by default
and when I unarchived my zip
a new one popped up.
Right. That's because the Aternos Zip file has "world" as the folder name.
(Which is the default name for singleplayer)
thank god for you honestly
LOL I'm laughing my butt off over here because I don't run or play Minecraft (I play other games on BH servers). So all the above was just me thinking about how it should work...
Like "I'm not a brain surgeon, but surely the spinal cord is attached in here somewhere..."
Yeah thats awesome you were able to figure it out and you don't even know the minecraft stuff
