yes, you're all playing bedrock is why.
but java players can't
if you want java players too, you will need to host a java server and then have that mod that allows bedrock players to join it.
yh im on pc but my friend is on xbox and she cant find the box to add server
playing minecraft on java doesn't narrow it down for you tho
bedrock minecraft also comes on windows
java minecraft is available for windows, mac, and linux
im hosting a minecraft bedrock server on pc but shes on xbox and she cant find the add server button to put in my server details
however if you power up a bedrock server, your friend and you can play it, and you will be using the bedrock version of minecraft on windows
but if you want a bigger affair where any of your friends can join, i recommend geyser
does she have to be on the minecraft bedrock windows to play on it?
have her follow this guide for her xbox

ok
minecraft in general doesn't care about the operating system its on or the machine
it only cares when you start messing with addons, datapacks, behavior packs, and mods
here's hoping you guys play long enough to care about it. 🙂
i've got 77+ mod packs and would be stoked if you played one of them eventually.
and there are currently over 100k mod packs made by others out there over the course of the last 9 years.
