#Unable to Untether from different ship

I was trying to switch over to a new ship so I tethered my old ship to the new ship to uninstall everything from the old and install/move it to the new (since having the airlock open to space made retrofitting easier). However, when I try to untether from the new ship the button doesn't work. It's still highlighted but when I click it nothing happens.

I also get a debug error when tethering or docking about multiple rooms with the same ID. The ship ID is the new ship the old ship's ID is H-V8D4Q, I also have a transponder installed that's registered to a different ship, it's ID is (V-PTQZ). Not sure if this error is related or not.

Troubleshooting steps:

  • Tried clicking Tether button = doesn't work
  • Tried reloading save = problem persists
  • Reinstalled enough parts on old ship to test untethering from it = Untether button works as intended
  • Retether to new ship to reattempt untethering from it = still doesn't work
  • Fly away anyway = Still tethered and eventually I hit a collision which I assume was the old ship I'm tethered to - Reload save
  • Rebuild enough of the old ship to untether and dock with the new ship, then undock from the new ship's nav station = works but is only a workaround does not solve original untethering from second ship problem.

Well, you have other issues - one of which is that items are stacked somewhere (the Haul system tends to do this). Remove and reinstall a wall to try and clear that (the ghost and multi-rooms things).

As for the Tether: Is the ship/NAV unit where you initially used Tether also the one you're using to release it? I think that may be required. If you own the ship you want to actually use (see [[Ship Ownership]]), you will be able to PASS over to it after untethering. Also, you should be able to dock the ships, either way.

hm, that's an interesting bug. Do you have an earlier save as well, ideally the first one after you tethered to the derelict? @iron breach

In the uploaded save, you’re docked with the derelict. I can undock, then tether and untether without any issues. You mentioned having another save where the tether gets stuck consistently. Do you still have that specific save available?
