This has been happening to me for quite a while now quite often

it may be linked to something I have been seeing where after super FFWDing through sleep the character is hungry and thirsty, they then eat a trencher, becoming stuffed, and then they drink 2 or 3 water which pushes them up into Sick: overeating. I have Super FFWD from that point and died before as well

I have included a save file, if you super FFWD from there a couple hours my character should die. I did it once with a 6 hour FFWD and once with a couple 1 hour FFWDs

Good news, everyone! And bad news.

The good news is that there isn't a bug. And that's kind of the bad news, too 😅

That said, even though it's working as designed, it kinda trapped you. Basically, your character is nearly starving to death, despite being full. It's just really hard to tell (which is our fault).

This situation could be due to eating Trenchers too often, which aren't great for nutrition (but are great at stuffing you). Prepared foods, like those at food carts on stations, are better. And is probably what you want to get a hold of asap, to nurse your body back to health.

In reality, you've probably got another couple of weeks of starvation before you die, at this rate. But the way we setup SFFWD, if you have any life-threatening status effects present when you skip time, there's a chance it'll kill you. So that explains why SFFWD did you in here.

#

Moving forward, I want to see if we can surface your starvation state in the UI better, so it's obvious that, even if you are stuffed, you can still be malnourished.

#

So this won't sneak up on you.

#

That, and I think we're going to buff the nutrition of cart food a bit more, so it's easier to recover from this situation once you arrive.

#

In your case, you have a couple of options.

#

If you want to play it out naturally, you'll probably want to get some nutritious foods asap, and eat those exclusively for a while. Probably lay off any exercise equipment, to avoid excess hunger. Sleep reduces metabolism, as do anti-hypovolemic stims, and advanced atrophy statuses. (And you'll have to probably avoid SFFWD for a bit.)

#

If you want to write this off as a bug (valid!), you can also use the debug console to carve out a bit of your starvation. You currently have 780h of food debt, and losing about 150 of that should get you out of Starvation territory into merely Malnourished. To do that:

  1. hit F3 to open debug console
  2. type addcond StatFood -150
  3. hit F3 again to exit
That'll drop your starvation down to malnourished, or you could try any other amount and see. And it should allow you to use SFFWD again safely for a while.
#

Like I said, a big part of this is our fault for the UI not warning you sooner. So don't feel bad about cheating out of it!
And we'll see if we can make the UI more helpful for future spacers.

Huh thats neat, I have since moved on from this character but it's good to know that you can die from scurvy from trenchers

This is really cool and I'm in full support of it as a feature, but you can't add shit like this and then leave placeholder stations (especially those at major ports like Tharsis) with basic supply kiosks that only sell a handful of trenchers every restock.

#

Spend long enough exploring or running gigs and cargo without regularly returning to one of the three more fleshed out colonies and you'll basically be dooming yourself.
