Allow the player to cut a chunk of a derelict, move it around, and reinstall it as a chunk.

Do not allow moving a chunk through a door if both of its linear dimensions exceed the door’s width of 3 cells.

Cutting should only be possible with a laser torch.

Large ship chunks should not be movable without a jet suit or an exoskeleton suit.

This would make shipbuilding and reconstruction more engaging. At the moment, the process is so tedious that after completing the major compartments of a ship, there’s little motivation to continue experimenting with ship designs.

Introduce a mechanic where ships can break apart on impact. For example, if a ship collides with the OKLG, it should split into pieces, requiring the player to spend time reinstalling the parts.

If the OKLG has defined airlock boundaries, it should be possible to reassemble the ship within those boundaries. At the moment, the mechanic of splitting the screen between the base and the ship during construction is quite limiting, and it removes many potential story twists.

Do not allow chunks beyond a certain size to be moved, so players cannot move an entire ship across the map.

Add construction equipment for moving large chunks. This could even be presented as a mini-game screen.
