#Venus Aerostats sell *normal* ships.

Most of these ships aren't built for the conditions and will fall out of the sky upon undocking.

Give Venus a few unique ships: a genuine reactor-driven STO shuttle and freighter perhaps? Things with a minimal reactor, possibly “small” fusion fuel tanks for an hour of thrust tops?

oof

#

Or the ships shouldn't BE at the aerostats, there should be an orbital waystation plus an automated shuttle service?

#

Basically a "parking lot and tram" system.

I’d like more choices ideally. Lemme see what PASS is usin’!

The ships for sale should be in orbit, EXCEPT the aeroshuttles. Which... unless they can be used elsewhere, like on Mars or Earth, don't seem to have a point per se...?

#

I mean the point of an aerostat is that it's IN the atmosphere, and a non-atmo ship shouldn't be there to begin with.

#

When I say "waystation", I mean an actual dedicated "parking lot" station which exists solely to service travelers going to and from the aerostats. An actual base, not just a fast-travel option.

So make one or two of ‘em and sell those instead.

#

Short-range fusion and atmo-capable.

Those would be dedicated craft and probably not even for sale, so they could be abstracted like the PASS system is.

That’s no fun in a game about scrapping/building dedicated craft.

hard shore
#

It would not likely be lore-reasonable for aerostats to sell off any such craft unless it's being decommissioned... so it would show up in the Boneyard.

(Or sell used.)

hard shore
#

I mean, such craft would be core to the Venusian colonies' economy and probably not a lot being produced. I'm not against 'em being up on the aftermarket, just the idea of in-service ships of that type being for sale.

verbal canyon
#

That’s what the “used” market is for.

hard shore
#

yes, I agree

#

but the point of this thread was that Venus Aerostats sell normal ships that can't break out of the grav well

#

my point was that to address this, normal ships should be only sold in orbit at a dedicated waystation and travel to/from the aerostats from VORB could be abstracted the same way PASS is

#

heck, sell the used short-range torchships there too

#

the draw would be "it's a torch ship you can ramp up, for starting interplanetary captains on a budget"

#

with a decent midsized cargo space but bare-minimum initial crew life support given that it was an orbital cargo runner

#

Venusian merchants would make bank on refit support too

verbal canyon
#

The issue is that it's basically the only way to do it currently.

#

they don't sell aero parts nor do they sell ships that can reasonably reach VORB from the atmosphere except in ideal conditions with an optimized trajectory and a perfect pilot

#

and no cargo

Okay then I misunderstood your issue.
