that magcargo weezing made me realize that I should stop always using the full 96x96 field for no reason when making scratch sprites, because you can put an insane level of detail on smaller sprites itself

I think it should be 100% allowed, because just like in spriting, there is skill required to do it well. You can make a really good sprite, and it takes spriting skill. If you can animate a sprite, and animate it so that it is really well done, and looks nice, that also takes a good bit of effort and skill.

Plus, as said by various folks above. It just doesn't tend to mesh with the rest of the sprites in game that don't wiggle about.

I agree with this, a bad design that's animated likely has more of a 'wow factor' to people who aren't spriters than a solid but static design. 😦

I gauged around 30 to be a good number to require them, but all competitions since that have had about 40. The only reason I gauge around 30 is because the bracket sizes might be weird if it were less, but there are workarounds to that.

This competition is just going to only have one winner. There are no workarounds that will be conclusive and there's no point in getting upset about it. It was a mix-up of information between me and BTA where I simply hadn't informed him what was going on, and he didn't realise the way to do the preliminary rounds was different.
