Plus the extra weight makes it useful to ground the gun so the recoil doesn’t instantly snap your shoulder out of the socket. (Hence why you’re not supposed to fire it without grounding it)
On top of that, you have to carry it using special magnetic discs that take most of the weight off of you. They use Celestial tech which is where all your anti-gravity needs come into play (at the cost of an arm and a leg)

A modern sniper rifle is no more than 30lbs and a sword hardly gets over 10 if it's absolutely massive like a sweihander so it's very strange to have it be 70lbs unless you have sci fi super strenght or something.

A few things:
- I’m aware of actual gunswords. Those are boring.
- This is not a zweihander, but specifically a Kriegsmesser. Much larger and heavier as it was designed to shatter armor, not just cut it.
- The weight had to be made even to the sniper rifle half so as to actually balance the blade portion. So really both halves = ~30-35 lbs
- I regularly have to lift 50lbs as part of my everyday job. Shouldn’t be a problem for someone with actual strength training who has used the weapon for literal years.
- Even in story, the thing is considered a monster of a hunk of steel. Not everyone uses something so hard to wield.
That said if you want a gunsword, that character’s ex gets to show hers off in the sequel.
Think a pair of cutlasses that each have two blades on them, and can be opened like scissors. The outer portions are sharpened, while the inside is meant to crush what gets caught between. Just a slight twist to disarm an opponent’s weapon. But if she wishes, there’s a small-caliber gun in the hilt right between the blades. So the method to fight is “catch, disarm, then fire point blank into their chest”
