It's mainly good because of its natural ability to check the best types out there.
Like Dark and Fire both hit through Steel-types, together they are neutral to Fairy-types (the best offensive type) and resist Ghost, Psychic, and Ice spam. The downside is of course the weakness to Ground, Dark, and Water, but all those mons tend to be slow, which means they get punished by common moves the type has that break setup and neuter damage (Foul Play, Sucker Punch, Wil-O-Whisp).
Yes it's very context-dependent and not every mon with it is gonna be a star, but it has a lot of strengths.

Fairy is not the best offensive type, Moonblast is one of the best attacks but it's coverage isn't near as good as Types like Ice, every physical attacker and it's dog has Earthquake and whether or not Water, Dark, and Ground types tend to be slow a lot of the best ones are really fast. And it doesn't have that many resistances. It's good but not top tier especially defensively

Really I like Venutales so much cause sprite is amazing, and it's name reminds me of veggie tales lol, but Speed is the most important stat for offensive pokemon to a point and they aren't fast enough to where the sacrifice in Speed would be worth it, and it already gets such good boosting moves and strong sun boosted attacks and no charge 120 BP Solar Beam, and Growth and Nasty Plot are practically the same with Drought but it can tech a physical move if it wants too. And the other stats besides Special attack are practically the same.
