I'm not sure if gears were meant to be this annoying to work with, but I have the following suggestions to make the entire thing less annoying to work with and more intuitive

  • allow angled gears to be placed on axles that aren't block supported (I can just remove the block after placing it avoiding the unnecessarily added restriction, -don't know why this exists)
  • allow more than 2 angled gears to be placed in one block making full gearboxes possible
  • allow spur gears to link to axles coming from opposite directions (not sure how to word this better)
  • allow spur gears to be placed between two axles

Also make axles auto-align when placed at the end of an existing axle or adjacent to a big gear. Regardless of player facing

that's half of what I stated, but there's plenty of other stuff that could be changed

#

like allowing for clutches to be attached to walls or roofs, and allow for them to not only work horizontally when placed next to a transmission but also vertically so the wall attached ones actually work

#

glad they are working on changing things though

Agree that the placement mechanics for it need improvement, if that's not already part of what's in the works. If I place an axle on the end of another axle, I want it to be in-line with that particular axle, not the other adjacent axle that happens to be better-supported

Tangential but related and overdue:
Would really like to be able to choose which side of the block a door's/gate's hinge is on without needing to break a wall to temporarily make double doors

i personally would love for the VS team to take some inspiration from Minecraft redstone and create mod. what i mean by that is adding or making certain mechanical blocks be able to interact with each other better and add as much possibilities with as little blocks possible. i mean if you look at some of the redstone build people build with so little it really cool and even thought create has a lot more than vanilla its still not a ton and you can do insane things. Now i want to end this off with i don't think the VS team should copy Redstone or create but simply look at their philosophy.
