There are a number of antialiasing techniques to reduce the effect, but they won't be cheap, and will introduce other artifacts.
Maybe others can answer, but at a certain screen density, maybe microvoxels can stop rendering as cubes with 6 face normals, and start rendering as cube particles that compute lighting from a single gradient derived normal.
I'd love if there was some way to author intentionally curved and oriented flat plane geometry though!
Beams are pretty slick this way.
