World was created in 1.20 and has 130 hours put into.
I noticed laggy / chuggy gameplay despite low settings, thought i am pushing my GPU, but considering the beefy setup I got it felt strange it was lagging so much.
Specs:
9070XT 16gb VRAM
7 7800 X3D
32 GB DDR5 RAM
I asked around for peoples setups and configs, and I messed around a bit, and have found the issue:
The limiter is somehow impacting performance
or it is limiting... wrong.
Test example:
(Image 1) Limiter set to 144. Performance graph in the game states a performance of ~80-100 FPS, dips down to 40, and it feels like 30-40. Extremely stuttery.
(Image 2) same settings, but no FPS Cap) Game shows 180-200 FPS, buttery smooth gameplay, minimum is shows as ~135 FPS.
So something is messing with it, obviously.
Now, here's the strangest part:
If I now set the limit back to 144 FPS, it's smooth still.
It now hovers at around 110 FPS with 70-80 FPS minimum, still lower than 144 which is odd as unlimited hits nearly 200 consistently.
I am messing around with it while writing this and I am noticing the following:
- It seems to degrade again when limited, the performance is now at 100 FPS while capped at 144. About 5 minutes have passed.
- Adjusting a graphics setting seems to re-start the lagging. I lowered the shadow quality and it now runs worse.
To the second point: it seems like it introduced micro stutters, see the third image. These, somehow, have now lowered again. about 3 minutes later. (4th image)
I do not know what causes this, and it does not make ANY sense, but I know that something is wrong with the FPS limiter.
Please have a look at this, idk what it could be.
