every now and then at random intervals I'll get a freeze for several seconds, then back to normal. game runs perfectly otherwise.

I've had the game run perfectly for extended periods without freezes in the past so it shouldnt be my system

okay turns out it was just a lack of having ever deleted the cache file
that mostly fixed it

Deleting the cache will help. I am not affiliated with this mod, but I have been getting good results from OptiTime (client side) to help smooth spikes.
