What is ipisin
koloma - Any color that cannot be seen by humans; from Greek 'χρώμα'
sitijan - A color that is blacker than black, used as a modifier; from English 'Stygian'
selumino - A color that is whiter than white, used as a modifier; from English 'Self-Luminous'
apepoli - A color that is more saturated than a color with 100% saturation, used as a modifier; from English 'Hyperbolic'
jelaso - The impossible color 'Yellow-blue;' from Toki Pona 'jelo' and 'laso'
lojeta - The impossible color 'Red-green;' from Toki Pona 'loje' and 'peta'
so you made the greek word for color mean the parts of the light spectrum that are invisible, the parts we specifically don't call colors?
or am i misunderstanding
like is UV and infrared koloma
yes
gamma rays are koloma
It is not just Base Pi
It is Superbase Pi (Term I just made up)
The exponents of the base are written in Superbase Pi itself
So 1000 = Pi^Pi, 100000 = Pi^^Pi (This is Tetration), and so on
Yes
not a nimisin, but a kepekensin
kule means every category on the electromagnetic spectrum, including radio waves, gamma rays, infrared, microwaves, etc.
do the same in other languages too. e.g. "my favorite color is X-rays"
What's a nimi kepeken

What's a Kepeken Sin

wouldnt all colors fall under koloma because some humans are colorblind?
I mean they would see it, just not in the same way you and I would
a tritanopic person would see yellow as like what we could call a light pink, but we would see yellow as, well, yellow
they still experience the color and probably call it yellow, and what that yellow is in an absolute sense of perceived color is different
but generally they still experience “yellow”
although this veers more into how semantic inventories can link with mental processing
I guess they wouldn’t see the same phenomenon of yellow as we trichromats know it

I am late but it varies from person to person. Broadly it is to þink, and most people will probably say þat, but it isn’t even remotely close to being a direct translation of to þink, especially because to þink is a very broad word

sina jan pi nimi Isipin
taso mi wile sona e ni:

Þat being said…
isipin to þink
lon nasin mi, I don’t use it very often because it is a type of þinking þat I don’t really express to myself or oþers, and it is kinda inconclusive. In my translation of Storyteller I use it to mean conclusion or ponder, but I don’t really agree wiþ þat anymore, like sure it is similar. I would probably say it is closer to pondering or concluding or figuring out or consider (in not a kama sona type way) þat is distintly different þan pali lawa. It isn’t toki insa, or sitelen lawa, or pilin or sona. But þere have def been cases where I use it and þink it fits. Maybe I’ll get better at defining it in þe future. I should prob use it more

this made me think of what all the greek letters would sound like if tpized.
you run into some trouble with ξ /ksi/, π /pi/, φ /fi/, χ /xi/, ψ /psi/
i guess you could do psi as Pisi and ksi as Kisi now that i think about it
fi -> si assuming there’s no other similar letter
oh yeah if you did Pisi and Kisi, Si would be free.
Apa, Wita, Kama, Teta, Epilon, Sita, Ita, Θita(!!!), Jota, Kapa, Lanta/Lansa/Lama, Mi, Ni, Kisi, Omikon, Pi, Lo, Sima, Ta, Ipilon, Si, Ki, Pisi, Omeka

TRUE!
this isn't a nimisin but we should just have "mi" be the repeated thing in a sentence to have multiple predicates
like "mi pali mi tawa" as one sentence

tuki tiki does exactly this
"mi pali. mi tawa" but sentence separation is optional
nah, sentence separation is overrated anyway

a combination of all attempts to replace or offer alternatives to jan, including jan, inexplicably including ka from tuki tiki, excluding all words that are not earnest attempts to replace or offer alternatives to jan such as jokes or insults, in a vain attempt to satisfy all parties who actually care about the problem insofar as actually creating the worst possible solution that isn't straight up an insult
if any alternative to jan were to be proposed in the future or discovered from the past, it would be added to this word in any location that preserves phonotactic validity and does not break up any of the existing words. if this cannot be done, the creator of the word that cannot be added is obligated to either coin a second word to preserve the phonotactic validity of this word or delete all evidence of their effort to coin a word which would replace or offer an alternative to jan. the 'coining' clause applies in discovery order, not creation order. if a word's author is unavailable to coin a second word or delete their effort in creating the previous word, all materials they created are to be placed in a Somebody Else's Problem field until such a time as the materials may be destroyed by a third party or the original author returns.
the actual intention in doing this is to make it easier for me to find this exact list when i go looking for it again

hmm
weird thought occurred
i think there are more yagpdb shards than toki pona speakers
when you said shard my brain immediately went to the works of Brandon Sanderson please help
hmm, it's ambiguous actually
there are 1728 yagpdb shards
so this depends heavily on how you define "speaker"
Yet Another General Purpose Discord Bot
D:
- what’s a yagpdp shard
- what are you basing the speaker number off of?
-
yagpdb isn't One Bot in the sense that there is a single computer program running all of its code somewhere
instead all of its responsibilities are split among many copies of it, and these copies are called Shards.
in this way, it's possible for one or a few Shards to be out, while yagpdb keeps working in some or even all servers.
it is also possible for yagpdb to be generally "down" but still working in some servers. -
the toki pona census from 2022
oh right that’s interesting

and the toki pona census la is there another one coming soon? one of my friends thought about reaching out to the person that did it to get another one since he thinks things have changed so much in 2 years

where's nan
excluding all words that are not earnest attempts to replace or offer alternatives to jan such as jokes or insults
your word intentionally includes those who do not want to be called that word, so it's not an earnest attempt to replace or offer an alternative to jan
it's intentionally violating others wishes and self identity
this is anywhere from rude to a direct insult
an insult to who?
everyone who does not want to be called nan
but if it's a silly word proposal that isn't actually intended to be used, I don't see what the harm is?
if it's a silly word proposal and not actually intended to be used, then it also doesn't mean the "earnest attempt" clause
I know but you said it was rude or an insult
but so we're clear, your word is insulting* in all but intent
there is absolutely no world in which i go "ah yes let me make a word for people who don't want to be called this word" and feel good about it or feel like it's funny
that sucks bad
idk what word to use
i don't get what you find funny or like even remotely okay in that word
it's expressly satire of other similar proposals
so to call it a slur. like. have you ever actually been called a slur?
it's satire???
this was never communicated to me by any of the way you engaged with the word
my apologies for not communicating that clearly. stop saying that I have created a slur.
sorry.
the satire is that any other one of these words does all but say directly that they include every sentient being in their sematnic spaces, including those who don't want to be included in that semantic space
nan was supposed to be like, a silly way to make that more obvious
like I can't unlive getting spat on and yelled at "go back to Israel, you fucking kike" on a bench in central park. slurs are bad because of history. slurs are bad because they are violent. I really don't think nan is comparable in the slightest.
this is fair. the slurs i have been called are not of that nature
What is "nan" ?
like yeah it sucks but that's the point, the point is that all of these words suck for the same reason
Slur Discussion in Bad Nimisin
actually, more directly, i'm just not aware of the historical context of the words i've been called
i'm just broadly aware of them being slurs
but, you know, that's what you get growing up weird in alabama
were the slurs directed at a demographic that includes you?
yes, and i would like to not continue the conversation here
alright
this is truly bad nimisin

tasu - next participant in conversation must draw two nimisin to use in their next sentence, unless they also have the word tasu in their nasin. if played, they may play it to force the next player to draw four. the player affected must skip their turn; play proceeds to next player.

(from the card game uno, draw two in english)
the passing off of +2 is a home rule iirc and not endorsed by Uno
that uh, won’t stop people from playing it like that, but I’m being an Uno nerd right now
reminding myself of that time I proposed the ability to deny a flip in Uno Flip by playing a flip card on top of another one, with stacking parity of course
that’s fun
the official uno rule is wrong
home rules are so much more fun
we used to play uno in school and we had a rule that if you swore or shouted you’d have to pick up two because we wanted to keep things orderly
when you don't have a card to play and have to draw you release a guttural scream and draw two at once for maximum efficiency

I don't care if they made the game they don't deserve a fucking opinion
no it's the objectively correct way To Do It
although personally the way I see Uno is “piss off the player right after you” and the pass on +2 basically functions as a get-out-of-jail-free card, which sort of doesn’t vibe entirely well, since there isn’t much of any other way present elsewhere in the game to avoid this sort of pissing-off
of course how I see Uno is different than many people
+2 stacking is fun because then someone gets hit with +20

what's this now
just like the mf doom song,,,
translating mf doom into toki pona and immediately ruining all rhymes and all rhythms
ive noticed a lot of tokiponized music kind of feels off beat
theres a contradiction inherent in translating songs to toki pona between the amount of syllables and keeping the meaning the same. if you translate a lyric into toki pona and want to keep exactly the same meaning, you are almost* necessarily going to need more syllables bc toki pona syllables carry less information, but in the same vein if you translate it just enough to maintain the rhythm, its easy to lose (sometimes essential) meaning
i havent actually translated any songs but ive thought about it a lot recently
my hot take is that this is entirely skill issue honestly
musician or listener
musician. I would do more covers of songs if I knew how to record them good. it is not hard to make toki pona covers that flow good and keep most of the meaning if you are good enough at toki pona
or something
i probably sound pretentious
but also like. no you can't do a literal translation. stop trying to do literal translations they'll never work
all you're doing is making it sound worse and it's confusing and hard to listen to
yeah. i think translating music to toki pona music is (only partially) about finding a good compromise between loss of meaning and # of syllables
(im speaking way out of my depth so feel free to criticize me if i'm wrong)
i think maybe making original tp music is different because then its not having to balance out any loss of information, but just getting enough words in there to convey what you mean
terrible idea: a tokiponido (correct word anu seme?) where you have more options for syllables and thus every tp word can become a 1- or 2- syllable word and thus you can pack more information into a syllable
is "relex" the correct term for this? im not sure. but just a tokiponido optimized for music translation
toki pona relex where you remove some vowels to make words less syllables (e.g. anu seme → an sme, kijetesantakalu → kjetsantaklu, sijelo → sjelo, etc.)
stress is stupid anyway
kijetesantakalu tonsi li lanpan ala lanpan e soko → kjetsantaklu tons li lanp ala lanp e sko
finding ways to shorten every word is left as an exercise for the reader
what
i already struggle drawing kijetesantakalu
