when i used to play at 60Hz, i could tell when the framerate dropped to 59, mainly because of vsync but its just instantly noticable

Maybe suprekuru is right. Perhaps my eyes have a low refresh rate, meaning I can't tell. Or perhaps 120hz is natural to me, somehow.
