Despite the previous SAO adaptations being absolute garbo I actually kinda like SAO Alicization. It’s still got plenty of flaws but it was and currently is an enjoyable show to watch. Though I personally think the show would be better if it was standalone and not connected to the SAO universe, everything about past SAO is what’s holding back this show, every single time I see Asuna or a past cast member on the screen my first instinct is to just drop the episode. With a little plot tweaking I honestly think Alicization would be a lot better if it was not connected to SAO at all.
TL;DR: The SAO in SAO Alicization is holding the show back.
I feel like even talking about this is putting me in normie status but I feel the need to talk about it.

that's pretty much about where I got to. they finally revealed what the main villains were and what their plans were and it was painfully generic
it's a shame because visually it's good. the choice of having the main character doing breakdancing/capoeira stuff to fight with his ability was pretty inspired.
it's funny, I think one of the things that disappointed me most was that there was never any actual firefighting in the sense of dealing with burning buildings.
feels like they missed a lotta opportunities for cool action sequences there.
granted it's a shonen and doesn't need to be some intricate mosaic of character studies or anything. but the characters shouldn't be bland either. Like, One Piece has characters with a strong, engaging personality, and I HATE One Piece, but at least there's clearly something there
