Saw a certain tweet promoting legal websites for manga reading with a guide and all as an alternative, since mangadex being blown out might cause a domino effect to other pirate sites, and that's totally useful and helps the author's a lot but I feel like the issue is so much more layered than simply that
With one key thing to note already being that legal sites don't have all the manga, or rather will only have licensed manga
The biggest draw with pirate sites is, completely other than being free, is that everything is there
You won't have to jump around multiple different services and platforms for manga of all kinds, you don't need to have kmanga and manga+ and comikey and w/e else if it's all in one place
And even then, if there was a platform where all legally licensed manga pool into that supports the creators, perfect, that would be great, but that's also only tackling half the concern, which is manga availability in general
Give or take only 1/8(being generous?) of manga that's currently running or has already existed is officially licensed, what happens to those that don't have the same fortune? Gone to the wayside? A place for illegally pirated and scanlated manga is needed for publishers to take note of manga that maybe isn't doing so hot in Japan, but booms with the west
Like, I'm all for legal reading of course, but only as a suggestion for those that are already licensed(and even you don't even get to read the whole manga anyways without paying or using tokens or after a login streak but that's a tired conversation) because unfortunately the pros of pirate sites outweigh everything else

One Piece Dressrosa arc finished watching (finally lol). You know all the problems Fishman Island had with the pacing? Turn that up to eleven. I swear to Oda, there was THREE CONSECUTIVE FREAKING EPISODES where nothing happened despite it switching to all the battles. It’s such a snail’s pace god. I thought the early part was bad with cutting away to Zoro being lost ALL THE DAMN TIME (which the hard knock days OP even made fun of with Usopp grabbing Zoro before he can add more padding), but how is a massive war throughout the entire island so not tense geez. I hear Wano is just as bad lol, not looking forward to it.
What about the arc itself? I love the premise honestly: what if the Strawhats never saved Alabasta and arrive at a pirate ruled country? It’s a but on the nose with some of the characters being straight upgrades of the Baroque Works members (like seriously Kilo-Kilo vs Ton-Ton fruit lol), and the emotional moments hit me harder. Confession time: I never liked Law’s backstory much. No I’m serious. The anime made me care about it just a teensy bit more… but I dunno it never tugged on my heartstrings the way One Piece Flashbacks usually do. You know what did hit even harder though? Senor Pink’s and Rebecca’s/Kyros’s. it was full of hype moments too like ||GOD Usopp and FOURTH GEAR|| so I can’t really hate this arc. Doflamingo is a fantastic villain too.
Welp out of One Piece to watch, think I’ll watch some Legend of Avantris Uprooted sessions before deciding what else to watch.
