and his ||downfall basically takes place over one chapter (the arc isnt over yet granted but the progression from 2nd to 9th and then 13th place all happens in one chapter) and the takeaway seems to be both that he didn’t take his editor’s advice but also that he didn’t take his discord server’s advice||

and his sudden lack of awareness reminds me so much of Misa in Death Note, how she’s smart enough to find Light but after that her intelligence just vanishes

i still think this series rocks tho this was just a weird volume

Theres this thing Brennan from dropout once said regarding fiction, it's an opportunity to experience things we never could in real life. Like jumping into a volcano would be cool, but most people could never do it, so those people turn to fiction to experience it

And this might seem a little sad, but I think in the current times, where most people have fewer and fewer close friends and relationships, the "experience" they look for in fiction is exactly that, friendship and relationships, which brings about greater interest in more "character-focused" stories with a wide and varied cast

If I was smarter I could talk a lot more about this but I'm very dumb so this is just like the pseudo epiphany I've been brewing in my head for the last year or so

Characters are also simpler to obsess and talk about and create fanart for which again like I said before makes for easy fandom bait and thus free advertisement for the source material

Sure but that's not really what I'm trying to get at here, the message and what the story is is secondary to who is in it.

The movie ends in and hour and a half, but people who liked it bring the characters home and they spread it wide as they can

The hellaverse is a prime example of this for me, there are entire communities built around one character all while hating basically everything else, but of course ultimately it still supports the material
