it's a simple headcanon that explains so much about his personality
the headcanon is this: jotaro has depression and he's on medication
he doesn't emote much and seems to be bothered by shit that requires effort? when you're on certain antidepressants such as SSRIs, it can cause your ability to feel emotions to be somewhat muted. he still suffers from low energy but the meds give him the ability to function. his strong will does the rest
by low energy, i don't necessarily mean he gets tired easily. it's more like personal energy rather than physical energy, meaning there's only so much he can take before his IDGAF switch is flipped

maybe holly caught jotaro's depression or recognized he was suffering but sadao either didn't catch it or didn't want to acknowledge that his son was mentally ill
anyway, holly's cheeriness isn't because she's ditzy, it's because her being all sunny and shit actually helps improve jotaro's mood and gives him the energy to get through the day
partly, his big scary banchou mask keeps him from emoting, but his depression could play a role in it too
he doesn't really show it, but it does help, and holly knows it
with the meds helping to stabilize him, it has an even greater effect
i dunno if antidepressants even existed back when joseph was doing his thing, so maybe his goofy presence was a way to cope with it(either that or he's got bipolar and tended toward manic episodes rather depressive ones and just leveled out later in life when medicine caught up and he started taking it)
depression is genetic, but it's also acquired, as certain factors in your childhood can affect how your brain develops
so sadao always being out being the money maker(or so he says) could have played a role in causing jotaro to either be more prone to depression or to develop it
but yeah, being around goofballs like polnareff and joseph would definitely help
apparently people suffering from depression laugh harder and more genuinely at funny stuff

Araki said in an interview that if a stand user would go back in time to when Joseph was alive, they would be able to see Hermit Purple wrapped around him because Hermit Purple is the stand form of hamon. Joseph could also use hermit purple to see people's memories or to sort of read their mind, and so him saying "Next you'll say___" could be him using Hermit Purple to find that out
so he might have been using Hermit Purple unconsciously when he was younger

Again trying not to spoil too much, but (at least in the 1-6 parts timeline) no one is just born with a stand, they either get one through their bloodline or through that one method they explain at the beggining of DIU. We can assume Kakyoin, Avdol, Polnareff etc. got their stands through one of those methods, since we never actually get a clear explanation about where they got them beyond the "I had it since childhood". Consequently that means that if Jonathan indeed had a Stand, then so would George or Mary AND Joseph would have had a stand at the beggining of his journey (since we never see that another method throughout Jonathan's lifespan). There are a few cases when stand users by blood had dormant stands which were then awakened by a highly stressful situation or an exposure to high quantities of stand energy (not gonna name them of course) and I'm gonna assume that if Jonathan or Joseph indeed had a dormant Hermit Purple in their youth they would have awakened it long before DIO came about (stressful, remember?). But, yeah this topic is a hard one

Okay Kakyoin's parents didn't have stands, but he might have stabbed himself on the arrow when he was a child. That phrase "Hierophant was my old friend since childhood" doesn't erase that possibility. With all of the other Crusaders (excluding Joseph and Jotaro) it could be this or their parents had a stand.
With Avdol and Polnareff we literaly don't know anything beyond the fact that they had Magician's Red and Chariot respectively during their childhood
