Like from the start.. chronologically speaking.. he first met dio.. got hypnotised.. got close to hurting jotaro badly and did do a lot of damage.. after he came to his senses although he had no other motive.. like revenge (pol) or trying to save his daughter (Joseph) or mom(jotaro) he did all that purely out of gratitude from his heart.. for someone he barely knows.. and the way he helped them even in the end.. of course that's quite remarkable.. my point being.. it wasn't sudden character development but it was built upto it . But I still feel he's got more potential than this too ..
