Spiders (or Ra’Archne) are one of the beginner teams in Age of Magic. They are relatively easy to obtain and have some utility later in the game (especially in the middle lanes of Doom Gates). However they are very much a beginner team and should be supplanted with stronger teams as you progress.

Strengths of Ra’Archne team include:
● Easy to obtain and do decently well in early dark campaigns
● One of the teams available in the middle lanes of Doom Gates
● Irazzt herself is extremely useful in Raiding, Tournament and especially Clan Battles throughout the game. She’s one of the most versatile characters in Age of Magic.
● For a team that is obtainable very early on, has both effective healing and resurrection (only with Irazzt)
● Their resurrection is automatic and doesn’t need to be cast (but only if Irazzt is in the team)
● Moreover, their ressurection is not single-target but rather they turn into a cocoon and can apply to multiple Ra’Archne and an unlimited number of times. The cocoons ressurect HP over time and once they are full they respawn as the original character.
● Extremely good at absorbing damage (only with Irazzt in the team).
● Very useful clan battles defense team if people are unfamiliar with defeating them. They fare very well against teams that do not have many effective AOE attacks. This allows them to be effective even against higher level teams (they do reasonably well against a certain setup of Dragonkin that doesn’t include Volnnah).
● Their DOT effects use poison which harm enemies beyond just damage over time but also limit healing effectiveness.

#

Weaknesses:
● Does not have any AOE attacks
● Irazzt takes much longer to obtain than other bugs, and the team is nearly useless without her
● Not effective in PVP against most non-beginner teams.

Members:
• Akhrasht (tank) absorbs damage and causes foes to take damage when hitting him
• Hilia (healer) heals and boosts HP and damage absorption
• Khshaat (caster) : increases damage and casts provocation
• Raarspit (ranged): slows and casts DOTs against single target.
• Tahit (melee): basic damage dealer but can also remove taunt.
• Rizer (rogue): good damage dealer (especially from hidden) and invulnerable when hidden
• Irazzt (leader): only bug character useful throughout the entire game across several fronts. Creates a form of ressurection for all other Ra’archne – instead of dying they turn into a cocoon and will respawn over time if not damaged. Also fantastic at damage reduction and boosting damage of other Ra’Archne. A specific writeup of Irazzt utility will be discussed below

#

The ideal Ra’Archne team is: Irazzt leader, Hilia, Akhrasht and either Rizer and Raarspit or Khshaat and Rizer. I personally think Rizer and Raarspit are the best remaining 2 options.

• There is synchrony between Akhrasht and Khshaat because Khshaat’s 2nd special increases Akhrasht armor and places taunt on him
• There is also synchrony between Rizer and Raarspit. Raarspit’s 1st special places a Rogue mark on a target. If Rizer subsequently attacks this target, Rizer deals additional damage.
• Additionally, if using them in raiding, slotting Rhiannon in the 5th slot makes Ra’Archne much more useful

Strategy - General

  1. The main goal of the Ra’Archne faction for staying alive is ensure you have Irazzt’s 2nd special available at the start of every round. Start every round casting this ability first. This skill is both a heal over time and a massive damage reducer

#
  1. The aforementioned ability allows you to save Hilia’s healing, particularly once the damage reduction has faded. Cocoons ressurect back into their prior characters once their hit points are full (they regenerate HP every turn).
#
  1. From there, have the rest of the Ra’Archne focus on killing one opponent at a time.
  2. While doing so, use Raarspit’s 2nd special to slow other enemies, and his first special to do damage over time to other targets.
  3. When Rizer comes out of his first special, his critical chances are much higher. This is esepcially true for his second special which doubles the damage output when coming out of his first special
  4. A really good strategy, especially in rounds when saving Irazzt’s special, is to use Rizer’s 1st special to dig in. Then target the toughest foe using Raarspit’s 1st special to place a rogue mark, followed by Rizer attacking that foe with his 2nd special. This should guarantee that foe dies.
  5. Additionally, Raarspit’s 1st special does damage as a percentage of MAXIMUM HP, not outstanding HP (maxxing out at 31%). This means that, if cast on a foe with 60% HP remaining, this foe will die in 2 turns unless the poison is removed.
  6. This same strategy applies for campaign, raiding (except Doom gates) and PVP

Strategy - Doom gate strategy

  1. With the middle lane of Doom gates, you also have the ability to use Forrest Shaman, and the Harbingers of Dawn faction. Both of these factions have heroes that are part of better teams, so are more useful to develop further along.
  2. The best examples of this are Siegfried, Tsuna and Cathbad. Of all of them, Siegfried is by far the most useful for a mix with Ra’Archne as his tanking ability is pretty universal.
  3. You can substitute Siegfried for Akhrasht, although he will not have as much damage reduction or healing benefit from Irazzt’s abilities (which don’t matter as much for him because he’s very good at damage absorbing).
  4. Otherwise, the same strategy generally applies – begin with damage reduction and save Hilia’s healing
  5. Be aware, if you are substituting anyone into a Ra’Archne team, Hilia’s healing casts a DOT on allies after healing and Ra’Archne do not have a debuff removing skill. This DOT will hurt Siegfried significantly as his damage reduction will not mitigate it.

Strategy – Irazzt specifically

  1. Irazzt’s 2nd special reduces damage for all factions, not just Ra’Archne (though not as effectively for others). This makes her an extremely useful 5th character outside of the Ra’Archne team.
  2. She is a good bonus character in tournaments for meta teams to obtain more bonuses. One great example is using her in conjunction with Chaos Spawn against Guardians of Order (particularly if facing Warris) because it helps Chaos absorb more damage while killing Warris.

  3. This ability is most useful in Clan battles by putting her in mixed team defenses. Shfe pairs very well with a Diana led defensive team (or an Elios led one as well).
  4. Warning – DO NOT attack a team with Thane’Arg with a team using Irazzt. Thane’Arg’s first special removes all damage-reducing buffs instantly, negating the utility of Irazzt’s 2nd special entirely.
