You should be able to go through the gate again in the next cycle
if that's what you're worried about. If you feel lost or frustrated there's no harm in backtracking
Also, if it is some help to you, there are always multiple routes you can take in regions, this applying to Five Pebbles as well

Help! I'm trapped at ||five pebbles||. I climbed all the way up the ||wall||, got the interaction with him then went into the ||memory conflux||. I ate some of the... things there and decided to U-turn to the shelter near the gate I had walked past because i didn't have enough food there when i went past it at first ||and my path in the conflux was blocked by a lot of those stringy blue guys||. This took me back through ||five pebbles' room and he wasn't happy about it.||
After coming back through after saving, he's now ||killing me pretty much on sight, and i'm not nearly good enough to get through before i get killed, in zero G (plus, even if i do, i'll likely die a few times to the blue blob things before i find another shelter)||. I know i need to get through to ||"go west"|| but i genuinely don't think i can.
This is genuinely the first time the game has felt truly bullshit to me, him attacking you feels so unnecessary, especially with how little time you have. There's a significant chance the player will die in the rooms past him so having a ||"two attempt limit" and no shelter directly after him|| feels insanely unfair. is there a way to calm him down? Can i go around? I don't want to go back down ||the wall|| unless i know I don't have to come up again, getting up was such a struggle compared to everything else so far.
To be fair the average player doesn't get themselves in a situation where they move past pebbles a whole 3 times
But yes going down into the five pebbles region is not a mandate if you're having a hard time
feel free to double back down the wall and find a way west like that
Awesome, thank you!
I looked it up partially and it looks like climbing the wall to reach pebbles was not the "intended route". probably only managed it because i was stubborn and have one of those grappling hooks. It also explains why it was so fucking hard lmao
Still i think the fact pebbles attacks you is a bit of a shame, i love how much this game encourages you to make your own path and doesn't lock you into anything. I'm having so much fun exploring and discovering the world in my own way, and being essentially locked out of one way through an area feels really antithetic go that design (and super discouraging).
I'll have to explore the other way on another playthrough, it seemed like a cool area. But ixm too busy getting ripped apart by the rocket birds now
Yeah the game's nature is nonlinear and intertwined, giving you free access to anywhere anytime and making every player have a unique custom experience
The speedrun world records for it are a whopping 12 minutes
That doesnt surprise me
It's really scratching the outer wilds itch, it feels like there's so much to learn
And that of course is only possible thanks to being designed like a spiderweb where you can beeline from tutorial area to endgame area really quick if you knew exactly where to go
I think outer wilds gameplay has the same trait
Im having fun in this chimney hellscape because those fucking lizards that made my ascent of the wall a living hell are getting devoured by birds now
And the birds are too stupid to catch me
Outer wilds and rainworld are often spoken in conjunction, they're generally each other's "you'll like this if you played that"
Amd of course both have a beautiful lore and mythos that you have to dig for
I've never played OW though that's just the receptions I've heard tell from its many fans
It's such a good game
Very different to rainworld but really fun in its own way
Rainworld feels a lot more like dark souls to me. Specifically like dark souls 1
But dark souls and outer wilds also share their similarities
All three are fun cause they dont tell you anything and respect the fact that you'll figure stuff out on your own
