An AU based on the initial concept of anthro slugcats being similar to benefactors, but with a core story that has been ongoing for eons.
An invitation into the mind beckons, a being who wishes deeply to share her story. She pours over it as you start to recall...
A Dreamer, she looks down upon the world in which she has inexplicably held the reigns of for reasons unknown. She points you to particular being, who is not aware of our presence. "There, that's the one. The one I longed after. And me? I am the only one who cannot change their mind. I dare not to, for there's something in me that cannot come to do so. But we are stuck in a cycle, observer."
She opens her hands to reveal a vague illusion, forming from rusted gold to show a slideshow.
Two silhouettes, one of her, the other of the being she pointed to who is unmistakably fluffy. Who sticks out like a sore thumb surrounded from their peers with its holy clothes and demeanor.
"We have been at odds longer than anyone can recall, you see."
The image of the Saint shifts, showing its eyes open with blinding light.
"I treasure these beings, all that I look over."
It raises a hand toward its peers, a marking on its face lights.
"But they wish to take them away. These memories, their lives as they are. What does the void offer that the gift of life cannot fulfill?"
The peers dissolve, and she steps in front of the Saint.
"I plead, but they cannot be bargained with."
The Saint does not spare Enot's visage.
"And I am forced to put everything back in it's proper place!"
Despite dissolving too, the visage of her returns, alongside those peers.
"Unfortunately for my beloved, since I refuse to alter their mind, they inevitably forget the last cycle of ours."
You offer a blunt and uninformed suggestion.
"Oh, of course I've tried to tell them what they've forgotten and my pleas! But I've been trying everything I can think of this entire time..."
She looks away, saddened. Instantly though, she perks back up to you.
"Oh! But it'd be delightful still, if I could share this world with you. In a way, it can exist through you."
