i think i messed up my progression

i play with a friend and we went from the outskirts to the industrial complex and then to the dark citadel and finally to the shoreline, from what i checked online you're supposed to go to industrial complex, then garbage waste then shoreline then dark citadel, does that mean we'll have to go back to the dark citadel eventually or can we continue progressing the game normally by following the indications of the little bot thingy ?

There is no "intended route", Rw is non-linear

You can follow the little guy, or you guys can pick a direction and explore that way
