Nightmare Mode

I had a question can I still play with my friend while I’m playing nightmare mode on my own new game plus cause he just got the game but he playing on normal if I join him would that mess up my chances to get the outfit for completing nightmare mode?

Can't speak facts but if you join a coop session then you're in their session and not yours, logically that would mean, no.
I would go on that logic atleast.
