The first game had a setting for rebinding the grapple move. It is, by default, "F." This, I think, is fucking stupid, as it takes one of your fingers away from movement, which is the other required input. This means that you can't grapple and throw an enemy to the right without moving your fingers awkwardly every time, leaving you open to the (MOST MAJOR ISSUE) 100% grab rate that the zombies seem to have. This is almost impossible to search for, answer wise; all I see is "grapple HOOK." It's like this ability doesn't even exist. It was one of the abilities that I liked the most in the original because of the level of control you had. Now, it's like no one's even heard of it.
I would simply like to know which bind in inputs_keyboard.scr is responsible for this move, as it doesn't seem to have a recognizable name to me if it is there. Alternatively, if anyone knows of a mod to fix this, that would be fine as well.
Also--this is unrelated but...--the game runs like shit. I have a pretty mid setup as of now (3060 ti, i7-9700) and the game runs much worse than it should on the lowest settings. It runs ALRIGHT w/ UPSCALING on the lowest settings, but the textures now look shit. The ORIGINAL Dying Light looks better and runs better than The Beast on the same hardware (max settings with ZERO UPSCALING on the original and lowest settings on The Beast). What the fuck is modern optimization. I have to be out of my mind or missing something, surely.
Because I went on a tangent in that last paragraph, I'll end with something that this game fucking nails: the impact. A heavy attack with a shovel into a fleshy skull gives me a kind of pleasure that I can't explain. It's like all my repressed rage from the shitty constant grabbing is released with every impact like I'm some sadistic hedonist.
