Found out why guns feel mid, you can't modify them like melee, so they need attachments.

My suggestion is 3 base attachment points, plus a 4th for the AR and SMG.

Barrel: things like suppressors, compensators, and elemental damage. (suppressor makes it quiter, compensators reduce recoil, and elemental damage adds a % of elemental damage.)

Sight: different optics, these increse accuracy but nothing else.

Mag(shotgun doesn't have): can be swapped to extended mags or stub mags that slow down or speed up reload at ammo cost, example a pistol can have a 30 round extended with 10% slower reload a 60 round drum at 50% slower or a 10 round stub at 25% faster reload.


Underbarrel: unique to the AR, this allows it to attach a UV flashlight, grenade launcher, shotgun, foregrip, bayonet, or flamethrower. these alt weapons replace bash so watch out.

an idea example for the supressor.

CAnn suppressor, has X durability. when it runs out the gun is no longer supressed and you need to craft a new one. This would be the same to all barrel mods and mag mods. each only lasts a specific ammount of "shots/reloads" so use them wisely.

that would also allow them to upgrade propperly.

noise reduction: 50%
lasts: 30 shots.

level 2
noise reduction: 50%
lasts: 45 shots

level 5
Noise reduction: 80%
lasts 105 shots

AT the min I would say rifles would be the "tactical" weapon where you can mod it while the others are they come as they are, pistols, SMGS, and Rifles, can get suppressors, shotguns elemental damage?

How about this for similified ideas.


Barrel mods: all weapons can equip barrel mods, but barrel mods have durability.

the default ones are : suppressor, and bayonet.

Supressor reduces noise, being nearly completely silent at full upgrade, bayonet allows you to do stabing bashes for 500 damage. both have 30 durability at low end and 120 at full upgrade.

Sights: these are a random prefex that effects range, example bellow.

glow: no bonuses
red dot: +5% headshot damage, +10% accuracy
holo: +10% headshot damage, +5% accuracy
green dot: +5% damage to specials, +10% headshot damage
glass optics: +1.2x aim "zoom", +25% headshot damage.

Underbarrel
unique to rifles, these are a secondary weapon that replaces the bash, rifles can not have bayonet and underbarrel for this reason.

examples
flamethrower: has 30 rounds of internal fuel, breaks after all is used(is removed from gun.)
40mm: fires a 1000 damage explosive, ammo is expensive from the vendor.
shotgun: double barrel punch uses shotgun ammo.
heavy bayonet: 750 melee hit.
foregrip: increased accuacy.
UV light: blinds enemies has 30 seconds of battery before needs replaced doesn't recharge like the hand held version.

I wouldn't say it ruins the DNA of the game, as that is well set, and it shows how good the melee combat is, that Aiden is given a gun, and goes "this is great." "but I like this" while holding up a big F all knife.

idk, supressors make bows and crossbow useless, i think the only gun attachment that should be in the game is elemental ammo types, ammo inventory is limited enough so it should be something you equip on the gun and not like a elemental arrow. What is the point of a underbarrel UV flashlight if you can use one while shooting already? underbarrel 40mm? thats basically a grenade launcher, and aiden can throw 30 grenades that scatter already. did you say you want a double barrel shotgun mounted to a rifle? that would look cursed lol

then why not just add a separate double barrel shotgun? that would be even better imo. bows are supposed to be stealthy, and supressors are supposed to make a gun stealthy, therefore they would fill the same niche, rendering bows useless (guns deal more damage etc)

Actually I just realized outside of the shotgun, giving guns elemental effects would likely be a bad idea, as that is the bow and crossbows main niche now, ranged elemental damage.

Like just imagine the following.

LEver action rifle: 8 round tube, slower firing rate but higher damage, comes at a cost of slow reload an fire time.

Revolver: 6 rounds high damage and heavy weakpoint crit bonus, but slower to fire.

PP7-bizon: 64 round SMG, high rate of fire and good damage, more accurate then the standard SMG but slower to reload and slower fire rate.

double barrel shotgun: already planned don't need to suggest.

Mp5: 3 round burst SMG, more accurate high fire rate SMG, good all rounder has a built in UV under mount light.

p90: top tier SMG, uses rifle AMMO though, 50 round mag, high rate of fire and accuracy, ignores a % of enemy resistances.

weapon: crude SMG, civilian shotun (both items that cna be scrapped only start appearing after the quest to get guns. and only after a side mission where you hear that the renegade renegades(waltz's men) have stolen a shipment to the fisheye.)

crude SMG: 15 round SMG, uses pistol ammo, pistol class weapon.
Civilian shotgun: 3+1 round shotgun, comes in normal and sawn off, lower damage then the unlock one.

Renegade sniper
weapon: Rifle with an optic, and stub mag
note: like the gunner only seen after the quest suggested in teh gunner.

weapon: DMR, rifle 10 rounds semi auto, heavy weakpoint bonus, armed with an acog like sigh, no scope.


Ally:PK

PK Elite officer
weapon: pistol/revolver
info: some of the first to request guns once htey returned where PK soldiers, though comand is actually telling them not to get them.

PK sniper
weapon: PK light crossbow (single bolt.)
info: start appearing once you give the PKs enough areas to unlock the crossbow, are armed with single bolt crossbows.


Ally: Civilian

Fisheye guard
info: seen on the ground level of the fisheye once the guns go live, 4 of these guys will stand guard during the day, two during night. they are armed with shotguns.

Gun happy survivor
info: a rescue target that can spawn, this survivor is using a pistol and well are in an overwelming situation, as they stand on a vehicle. biters around them. will give pistol ammo once saved, stating they didn't know firing it would draw more of the things.

Oh I think there should be a story beat where the PK refuse to actively arm their soldiers with guns once they return. Sure soldiers can trade for their own but they shouldn't actively get them. Reason being. force multipliers are good in human vs human but when dealing with the infected they just bring the swarms leading to wasted ammo and time. a spear or crossbow is safer.

That said civilians should openly endorce them, and more then a few should come out with ones they have hidden after the quest.

Like a job board where a guy has a collection of old m1 grands he kept hidden and is giving them out to anyone who is willing to clear out a few demolishers.

Got a few job board ideas involving guns. I personally think civilians should go for them with open arms, while the PK command actually avoids guns, sure PKS would get them and try to get them but command would see the trouble they can cause. guns are loud, swords are not. even a well suppressed 9mm is louder then a crossbow.

My main caviat with the PK crossbow for example is the atrocious sight. Being able to swap it for bare irons would be great, and disposable supressors would be very welcome

I'd say for the makeshift guns only as it allows for more variety and considering the modern guns are old and rusty it may not fit well but thats just make take on it. While i think if modifications drop, there should be a bonus but at a cost

I think the attachments should be makeshift. Scopes made out of glass bottles and bent metal, suppressors made out of soda cans, things like that. Old World attachments should be rare loot you can get from military loot places

On that note, TL should add makeshift guns with craftable ammo but are worse overall, while the Old World guns and ammo is the best available

Example the grenade launcher and UV light ones for the rifle on trade offs.

GL, no longer have block as that is replaced with firing the grenade, also the increase in weapon weight means less accuracy.

UV light, no longer have block as that is replaced with its UV light, hmm what would be a good down side for that.

Muzzle (suppressors, range from ones thato nly reduce noise by 25% to 90% only bows should be completely silent.)

Sight (prefix swapping)

Mag (short, for faster reload, drum for slower but more ammo.)

Shotgun unique: ammo swapping.

AR unique: Under barrel, (things like laser sight, UV, GL, flamethrower, etc.)

Another attachment we could add could actually be removing something from the gun. Like, with shotguns, you can cut off the stock or shorten the barrel to increase the handling of the weapon; increasing its fire rate and reload speed but increasing its recoil a lot

Still one thing about attachments is balance will have to be head. Like suppressors are a must, but they can't out do bows.

So the bow its 100% silent, a suppressory could reduce noise by like 80% for a good one, with as low as 20% reduction at the low end.

think of it this way.

100% silent weapon: almost no chance to summon virals on a kill, low chance to summon on hit from infected reaction.

80% silent weapon: has a low chance to summon virals (like 10%) that increases per shot fired in a short time span. 5% per shot increase)

60% silent weapons: have a moderate chance to summon virals (30%) that increases per shot fired in a short time span (5% per shot.)

40% suppressed weapons: has a moderate chance to sommon virals (30%) that increase per shot fired (10% per shot)

20% hushed weapons: 50% chance to summon virals.

none suppressed guns, 95% chance that any shot can call virals to your location or start a chace at night.

note the calling of virals would have a cool down of like 120 seconds.

The quieter the gun is the more shots you can get off before alerting virals, or at night volitiles.

Many things could come for the tower raid. New guns, new ways to travel, or new ways to become resistant to turning or something thats speed up the process
