I Cannot Connect To My Friends Game - Suggestions/Help?

I've bought my friend dl2 a few months ago to hopefully enjoy the game with them. Once we tried to join eachother, we were met with constant connection issues, but when we'd try to join a public game hosted by a random person, we could join fine. I have still not been able to join my friend months later, but i can still join random games. We've reinstalled our games, checked for updates, tried to join eachother via epic, nothing seems to work. has anyone run into an issue like this before? could it be fixed?
