After the good night good luck update the game has severe performace issues, basically after 20 minutes of gameplay my fps drops randomly under 30 constantly, to give you context it's like playing the callisto protocol on day one.
Also it gets even worse because when i hit an enemy with an electric mod the game become a slide show, pls help.
#PERFORMANCE ISSUES
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
this happened to me but not that much, every update i swear theres always a performance drop because when i first played it it was smooth but now its terrible
I have a performance upgrade after the last update
weird
have you played dying light 2 right before the update? if yes have you noticed any kind of performance issues then?
Before this update the game was fine
did you change any graphical settings after the update? any at all, no matter how insignificant it may seem
No nothing
what are your pc specs?
As soon as i go back home i'll tell you
ok
Thx for the help btw
Yesterday my game was running fine, until just before logging off then the fps dropped to <15. Today when i log into the game in the menu it starts at 100fps (My monitor fps) then after about 10 seconds it drops to 4 fps and stays like that. If i turn off Raytracing it goes back to normal. Im on a 2080
No matter what settings i change, it seems to be tied to the DX12 Ultimate (RayTracing). As soon as that is off everything works. Game is not as beautiful but atleast i can play it
@tardy thorn intel core i7-10750H CPU 2.60Ghz 6core
16Gb ram
Gtx 1660
from cpu i guess its a laptop. Games have a tendency to run like shit for no reason on laptops, like my friend has a laptop that was better than my previous desktop and games would still run quite a bit better for me. All I can think to ask is - is the game installed on an ssd or an hdd and is it possibly overheating?
Well, rtx 20 series can hardly run rt on any game, but Dying light 2 also has a quite significant performance drop with rt. I have an rtx 3060ti and its playable with all rt settings on (40-60 fps most of the time), but I rather have the smoothness that comes with higher/more stable fps
I ran the RayTraced preset at 70+ fps stable yesterday, then my fps after some hours of gaming crashed down to 15. Today if i use the same settings i get 4 fps no matter what, even in the menu
that could be because of any number of things. some that i can say out of the top of my head would be: overheating, other components not able to keep up and the reason i stated before. Of course It could also be the games fault - balancing issue, but then all you can do is wait and hope that they will do something about it
Ye, alteast if i turn off DX12 Ultimate (no raytracing features sadly) it works at 100fps stable. So its playable in that sence until they give us a fix 🙂
If*, It's unknown (or at least I don't know D:) if the rt is badly optimized or if the world of dying light 2 is just that demanding
@devout gull just wondering, what are your specs?
well, definitely not the specs, then it's either overheating or ya f'ed 😄
@devout gull I would recommend downloading MSI afterburner and rivatuner, and turning on the monitoring of all your components and trying to run the game with rt, just incase
Yes i have a laptop and yes it overheats a lot,the fact is that only trchland games give me this problem, for example i can play cyberpunk for 2 hours and it runs really good and it doesnt even overheat my laptop that much...
@tardy thorn After the latest hotfix it got even worse, So i did a DDU (Clean reinstall of my video driver) And now my sweet fps is back! Thanks for the tips and help bud!
how do you do a DDU?
Arh cant link. Just search DDU on google. DDU = Display Driver Uninstaller. Then run that, Make sure your computer is in safemode and select Do not let windows install drivers automaticly. (You want to install the driver yourself).
From userbenchmarks my gpu went from 80% to 112% due to all the crap that was on the old driver installs
holy shit that sounds complicated
Nvidia or AMD?
Download DDU and place it onto your desktop.
Download geforce experience (Or just the driver if you want) and have it handy on your desktop. (Screen res will be poop until you install a driver)
Restart windows in safemode (Important)
Run DDU as admin and go into its settings, at the bottom you can select so windows does not install a driver.
Now select gpu or cpu, Nvidia or AMD then click the uninstall and restart (It will say recommended)
When your pc reboots just install your driver 🙂
In the DDU settings you might wanna select everything for Nvidia to remove all the prew crap
On guru scroll down and you will find mirrors to download
i done that
i ran it and nothing happened
it just said to extract with 7zip and then it just closes
oh wait im dumb
hm, you should get a folder and a file, when you extract the folder open it and run the .exe inside the folder. Try winrar if 7zip isnt working
even with winrar it pulls up the 7zip but i was just dumb and didnt put the location in my desktop
no wait, not the .exe in the folder, run the one that is outside the folder
latest version should be named DDU v18.0.6.4.exe
damnit i cant send photos
i forgot
so i have files
and one says Display Driver Uninstaller.exe
then you have already runned the DDU v18.0.6.4.exe and you didnt select a folder so all the files are on your desktop.
is that bad?
nah just delete everything after your done its fine 🙂
i dont trust myself at all lol
haha all good 🙂 There should be a ddusomething.exe you can run
now download geforce experience (or driver) and put it onto your desktop for easy access
already done because i always install drivers
what next?
i think i found a video on how to do it
Run DDU and select settings, then at the bottom you can select to prevent windows from install drivers. Also select everything from Nvidia to remove all the crap 🙂
wait do i restart with safe mode?
DDU will restart for you
you have to be in safemode when using DDU, and when its done it will restart you out of safemode
oh ok
Dont panic with the 800x600 screen res, its just until you have reinstalled your driver
top left
select everything for nvidia and the bottom option to prevent windows from installing new drivers from windows update
yepp
Okay i think im good so far
Ima just wait it to do its thing
So i wait and it will autonatically restart then i install drivers from nvidia geforce experience?
And thats it?
WAIT I THINK THAT WORKED
When i opened geforce experience it said no drivers installed
yepp then just install a driver like you normaly would 🙂
so this gives you lots of performance?
It removes all the prew drivers crap that can slow down your computer. Its been 6 months since ive done it and i went from a 80% to 112% performance on my GPU
hell i havent done it at all
so it should boost my PC alot
ITS SO SMOOTH NOW THAN BEFORE
thanks so much
im still questioning why i took advice from a stranger
but it worked
haha enjoy the few extra fps!! 🙂 I usualy do it every 2 months or so depending on how many new drivers has relesed, Its a good ritual to have to make sure your pc runns as good as possible 🙂
thx so much
also anything worth for just 1fps
Oh 100%!! 1fps becomes 2 then 3 for everything you do haha
ill do anything for 0.1 more fps
im still gonna check if it runs games just in case it didnt screw up itself
i also noticed switching to a SSD makes the game performance a lot better
I'm surprised that some people still don't know this...
all i know was that it makes load times faster
but i didnt know it would make performance better
but ngl recent games recommend SSD so its not surprising
Switching to an SSD will reduce loadtimes for the game, But it will also reduce popins ingame as assets loads faster, and due to that reduce notisable lag and stutter 🙂
