It's a way to throw a flare without getting the spit staggering effect. So if someone hits you with a uv spit while in uv block you can still get a flare out before they pounce you unless they decide to pounce before the spit explodes.

I think you have to be like mid air when the spit explodes or something like that. Been ages since I played so I don't really remember the exact timings of it.
But yeah, it's probably the number one way to counter gp spit if it actually hits you.
Other than that spam back and sideways slide to avoid a successful gp.

Yeah you just need to know how to counter the spits and evade gp & tackles

In order to actually deal damage to it, first you need to use your UV/Flares to lower his shield gauge to 0, then if by any chance the predator manages to run away, his life AND shield gauge is restored. Other than melee and ranged weapons, there's pretty much nothing you can do to damage him. Meanwhile, the predator can spit acid at you, summon a bunch of bomb zombies that insta-kill you if they get close, can use an AoE attack on the ground if you get close to it, push you away while also dealing damage, insta-kill you with a grab attack and also turn off your UV light, which is your ONLY mean of actually killing him other than flares.

Nah, in order to damage the hunter, just slice when he gets closer, and uv only to not get pounced

Oh, not to mention the predator can freely hook on buildings. I know humans also have a hook but not only they have a cooldown when used too much, you need to keep stop moving just to change from hook to UV to flare.
