Health restoring? Fight for it.
Got stuck somewhere due to movement system poorly synergizing with level design? Can't fully blame you.
The """map""" of the city: shit. You just see regions, can't even visualize the map until you know it inside-out. You have no idea where you are.
rpg elements: eh... fine, but tasteless
enemy design: good for a soulslike. Some are just laughably pathethic but some make you want to run so far they will never find you again.
a bit clunky gameplay mechanics so you can only polish your gameplay with a lot of experience.
diversity of combat: awesome
world building, characters and storyline: mostly superficial, like dl, but does the job.

this one is a slide followed by an uppercut

but the thing about animations in this game

unlike typically, you can actually start another move and transfer from animation to another at any point, instead of sitting through while it plays

so you can more rely on your reflexes and you aren't punished for doing something wrong as much as in dark souls

the way this insanely fast movement works is

you sprint and attack to perform the slide
but you cancel it with parry right as you finish sliding

and just continue doing that

in dark souls parrying is incredibly hard but also incredibly rewarding
in the surge 2 parrying is easy and you get less punished for missing, and after multiple parries you can get a free hit or combo and optionally some health, energy or stamina depending what perks u have

in dark souls dodging makes you invulnerable for 0,25 seconds or something like that, and you can roll through attacks if timed perfectly, that's personally how I play, master each enemy and boss and know them so well they will be unable to land a single hit on me

in the surge 2 you actually have to physically evade some attacks and dodge in a direction where you wont get hit by any of the attack hitboxes. dodging is just dashing.

and in dark souls healing makes you vulnerable but you have plenty of estus to drink that will, in total, restore multiple health bars worth of health, but once you run out you have absolutely no way of healing quickly, only really, really slowly. Which isn't even guaranteed because those slow ways require a ring or a spell

in the surge 2 you get to choose which kind of injectable you use to heal, personally I use one that gives you a flat amount of health instead of healing over time
how it's used is you get energy for each landed hit, and it takes a few hits to get 1 bar, charged attacks give you significantly more energy when landed. Consuming that bar gives you back like 2/3 of your health, at least if you're running my build. So you will never truly run out but in order to sustain, you have to put yourself at risk.

blueprints are the only thing unaffected by death

you keep them forever until the server gets a bp wipe

which means everyone's blueprints are reset to default

the main point of wipes has always been to reduce server load. You have absolutely no limits in what you can build or do, but things just take resources which you have to farm.

well if you build a structure that is sealed (obviously, why would you leave a hole in it? lol) After 60 seconds you can't remove any construction you've placed, so you have to make a door and put a lock on it.
There are key locks which cannot be opened by other players unless you have crafted a key for it and given it to them. And there are code locks which have a 4 digit code and since there are about 800 combinations of 4 numbers they're not going to guess it. So the only way for others to get in is to damage some part of the base enough that it breaks.
You will go to sleep when you go offline and other players can open your inventory and do whatever they want. You become like a human chest.

when you place any building block it becomes twig which has 10 HP. Walls have soft sides and hard sides. You always want to place the hard side outwards. You can upgrade any building blocks to higher tiers but it takes resources. The tiers after twig are:
Wood 200
Stone 500
Sheet metal 1000
Armored 2000
Different types of base parts have different hp but if we take just the wall piece for example, those are the hit points I stated above.
They take less dmg from the hard side and more from the soft side.
And there is just so much more detail regarding this that I'm just not bothered to explain.
I'll just say it's very hard to breach a base unless you are well equipped. And getting to the point where you can raid bases takes a quite bit of preparation, imagining you play like 6 hours or more in a day.
But once you get started and are able to make your first explosives, you already have what it takes to keep making more so you will really snowball from there.
