Charles Darwin first made the proposition that all species have evolved from a common ancestor, essentially shaping the definition of the word "evolution". To further give the city some character I named it New Darwin (because a city called Darwin already exists)
The council being a group of sentient volatiles who in reality, are no different to the other volatiles but they're just in a higher position dictating not only over humans but the rest of their own kind. A true dystopia with forced peace.
The volatiles now being called orators due their ability to telepathically speak in the minds of others. Their old name forgotten due to the game happening 55 years after the events of DL2 and in a completely different area.
The game would be all about humans, volatiles and their complicated relationships because they have to live side by side to survive. The volatiles all being sentient with no trace of the mad beast within their former selves. But still fully capable of fighting.
To give it some normal zombie slaying aspects I'd make the council possess samples of the contagion and use them as a bio weapon against the humans during their uprising.

The infected have evolved in something like a mix between volatiles and night hunters but with wings, its many many years in the future ;D they are now space race XD
we are playing as humanoids creatures on another planet where the zombies are invading (they are also high tech)
It will also have space kombat and we have to maintain our personal battle ship, it will still have the melee mechanics from the first game for close encounters like in ship corridors
it will have almost like dead space vibes while we are in space exploring their mother ships but its all first person including the ship which can also turn third person

I've seen clips and footage of people playing L4D solo, it's most definitely possible. But I doubt that it would be possible for a complete "newbie" who's never played the game before.
Which is what distances it from DL in core direction, in my opinion.

Without bots you are essentially forced to speedrun it. Otherwise you will just give the special infected way too much time. In expert it's especially bad since specials will attack immediately not really giving you any time to react to it. A Hunter you can skeet, sure, but Smokers are the biggest problem really.

Well, the fact that playing it solo practically requires a speed run just distances it even further from DL and it's core gameplay, which is mainly focused on a singeplayer experience with co-op tackled on and an additional non-required PvP mode.
So at the end of the day I think it's safe to say that they're almost nothing alike apart from both containing weapons and zombies. There was the crossover event, that just made it clearer that they were nothing alike because of the way in which they tried to make it work. It was okay, but... something about the viral spawning mechanic was clearly off.

I was pointing out that it felt off in my opinion. If you think it worked perfectly fine, then sure. You're entitled to your own opinion.
The spawning was somewhat inconsistent, most of the time it worked alright. But every now and then no new zombies would spawn even without doing anything, and sometimes far too many would spawn. I don't think it was consistent with the system they have in L4D, which are random roaming zombies followed by occasional hordes, that are triggered either by the passage of time or other special events.
I'm not blaming Techland for doing a subpar job. It's nothing like that. I'm using it as a way to point out that the two games are so different in nature. In DL, you'll get 10 virals max at one time during the event, maybe 20. In L4D, you'll get 50+ of the common zombie type in a horde.
It's not a criticism of either games's systems, because those are the ways they've been made to appeal to how the rest of the individual game works. They're different. Trying to turn DL into L4D is always going to be a mediocre end result, and the vice versa is also true, because of the differences in the games.
Was it a nice event? Yes, it was. Did it make it perfectly clear that DL was nothing like L4D and probably never can be unless the whole game is changed? Yes, it did.

l kept playing new playthroughs just to see how badly l could fuck myself over. In one playthrough l found a bunch of skeletons who stole people's skin. So naturally l went to the nearest town to recruit every fleshbag l saw in order to appease my Terminator breathren
