I checked the nbt data before/after I updated spigot and I can confirm spigot is using json for what used to be legacy text

Find the this.displayName = /*forgot class and method name, something.fromString()[0]?*/ bit, take that component you get from the converter, and wrap it in a component that is a plain string with ยงf
wrap it as in make it the child of that plain string one
That should make it use the legacy formatting to reset which clears the italics then let you use components for your actual formatting which means you can use RGB

There is no legacy code to turn off italic, the reset component was changed to not clear the italic for this, and you can no longer send raw legacy codes since they all get converted now
