#

A quest even

vernal moth
#

Definitely, being an RPG thankfully that's easy to do nicely

#

But makes you wonder about ppl that vanished over the course of the last decade, wondering if they just moved on or if something happened to them

#

Like, I met countless of ppl via this game and it's community, many of which I talked regularly too

golden gust
#

how many of them did wiz ban

vernal moth
#

Yes, ppl come and go, but i know that we lost some due to suicide and shit

#

Most of this is irc days ^^

golden gust
#

tbh, I think that outside of the consistent stream of newbs, the majority of the community is from like just shy of 10 years ago almost

void void
#

@potent fossil i avoided auto-starting stuff myself, never looked into it

golden gust
#

with i3, you can write configs to say which app should be directed to which window, etc

vestal jasper
#

how the fuck do I electrical?
This light switch replacement has 4 wires and the one in the wall has 3

#

??????????

golden gust
#

two phases and an earth?

vernal moth
#

Ground?

vestal jasper
#

Live, Load, Neutral, Ground

golden gust
#

I mean, what wires you got

vestal jasper
vernal moth
#

Many ppl just ignore ground

limber knotBOT
#

Going to guess you're missing ground in the wall

vestal jasper
#

yeah

potent fossil
#

hm fair enough

vestal jasper
#

does it matter if I don't hook up ground with this?

limber knotBOT
#

Also going to guess your house is older than you

vestal jasper
olive garden
#

lol

golden gust
#

two phases plus load implies dual switches

vestal jasper
#

The breaker suggests this room and the room next to mine are connected

golden gust
#

Well, one switch here, other switch over there

vestal jasper
#

So I'm going to assume the switch in the other room has ground

golden gust
#

common goes to the load, iirc, then the switched ones go on the switched poles

vestal jasper
#

and the one in my room doesn't

#

as both rooms have a single switch in each

limber knotBOT
#

You probably can't break it so just wire shit up and see what happens :P

vestal jasper
#

ye true

golden gust
#

Yea, worse case you trip a breaker, lol

vestal jasper
#

Yeah but that's really not that bad

limber knotBOT
#

Without a ground it just means if a bunch of things go wrong the switch might kill you one day :P

vestal jasper
#

"hey maintenance shit's broken"
what you do?
"uhhhhh I plugged in a lamp, yeah that"

golden gust
#

what part of the world are you in again?

vestal jasper
#

U.S.

golden gust
#

ah, rip

vestal jasper

it's an apartment

limber knotBOT
#

You do need to turn the breaker off, unless you're insane

vestal jasper
#

also yes the US land of completely fucked electrical work

#

yeah no amar i'm not gonna kill myself

olive garden
#

wait, so what's "line" in that image?

golden gust
#

I mean, I'm in the UK

#

everything is wrings

#

line is live

vestal jasper
#

turn breaker off, check, double check, triple check that it's off, then replace switch

golden gust
#

load is also live

limber knotBOT
#

Dude most of the wiring in my house is still knob and tube, don't talk to me about shit wiring :P

golden gust
#

lol

olive garden
#

I get why we have 2 grounds, but why do we have 2 lives?

vestal jasper
#

idfk the difference between line and live tbh

heady spear
#

vic u did donate to hegemony too right

golden gust
#

You don't

heady spear
#

ur so good at spending money

vestal jasper
#

yes I did

limber knotBOT
#

Once I get the mortgage paid off I'm going to get a $20,000 loan and do a major overhaul of things

golden gust
#

In that image, the thing on the left is a spur

#

It basically just taps off an existing switch, so it's considered a load

#

The terminology in electrical engineering and all that gets fucking backings ez

#

*backwards

vestal jasper
#

I'm not an electrical guy nor have I ever touched a light switch or outlet before so I'm making extra sure so I don't break shit or shock myself

#

I mean, I've shocked myself numerous times before and surprisingly I'm still here

golden gust
#

I used to work on switchgear \o/

vestal jasper
#

Don't ask how but I managed to touch the inside of a PSU once

#

still alive somehow

olive garden
#

ohhhh

golden gust
#

I used to work around mains voltage and stuff like that

#

230v doesn't really scare me, coz I know not to be stupid around it, etc

#

disposable camera?

#

electronics with big juicy capacitors?

vestal jasper
#

Ok I'll say how I managed it anyway, time to brag
I was servicing my Imsai 8080 once and forgot where my right hand was and touched the PSU section of it.

golden gust
#

Fuck that , lol

vestal jasper
#

entire right arm tingled

#

was fun

golden gust
#

really depends on your grounding

#

If you're not grounded, best you'll have is dc capacitance

vestal jasper
#

those are big caps btw

latent valve
#

Thicc cap

golden gust
#

if you where grounded, you'd of probably had a good enough zap, lol

#

Apparently that's actually one of the biggest killers in electrical

vestal jasper
#

I wasn't grounded nor did I have one of those grounding wrist things

golden gust
#

people working on live panels and holding the exposed chasis

vestal jasper

it didn't travel past my arm thank god

obsolete just means that it's unmaintained, and it's pretty easy to install stuff in away that that happens

limber knotBOT

vernal moth
#

I mean, the issue that was opened only needs one placeholder, so I could just wing it

but I want to do this properly πŸ˜‚

limber knotBOT

vernal moth
#

I could do dum spring replacements but I want to do this properly πŸ˜„

#

urg why is regex such a pain

wide chasm
#

I managed to get this, but some of the colors are now different, so not super ideal

vernal moth
#

that doesnt look too bad

wide chasm
#

It's ((?<start><)(?<token>([^<>]+)|([^<>]+(["'](?<inner>[^"']+)["'])))+(?<end>>))+? (I added a + near the end of the token group.)

vernal moth
#

yeah that breaks shit

golden gust
#

wut are you tryna do exactly?

#

Sounds like you're tryna abuse regex for something that really shouldn't be tryna use regex

vernal moth
#

and I want inner to be repeatable

#

where inner is just a string, I dont need to match anything in that, thats handled via code (so no recursive regex, lol)

limber knotBOT
#

I mean I replace shit in the parsed component message afterwards, lol

vernal moth
#

that would be my last resort

#

well, can still have shared source

golden gust
#

open source and "can't fork and sell" basically don't go together too well

limber knotBOT
#

creative commons - share alike - attribution - no commercial is probably what you are loking for but that's not really a software license

vernal moth
#

just not open source in the FSF definition

golden gust
#

fork and sell

#

asin, mutual...

#

Such a thing in general kills what open-source licensing allows

limber knotBOT
#

just use AGPL and be done with it Β―_(ツ)_/Β― ensures that it's always stays open source (until someone finds a workaround)

golden gust
wide chasm
#

If you want a cheap way Mini, I have this: ((?<start><)(?<token>([^<>]+)|([^<>]+(["'](?<inner>[^"']+)["'])([^"'](["'](?<inner2>[^"']+)["']))?))(?<end>>))+?. Literally just added another matched group to it, so now you have inner and inner2. Seems to work for the test you've given and doesn't break the previous ones as far as I can tell. (I'm assuming you only use the named gropus within the code.)

#

Still not super nice, though.

golden gust
#

i mean, what's wrong with selling if they put work in?

#

Just, make sure you pick a license that enforces them to share source with purchasers, etc

limber knotBOT
#

main issue with selling open source is probably that they often don't contribute back to the original and also might sell without changes at all, lol

#

so even if they follow the GPL you need to first buy the code or convince a buyer to share his code with you

#

which imo makes sense, after all they but work in but Β―_(ツ)_/Β―

vernal moth
#

@wide chasm, well, ideally there are N inners...

wide chasm
#

Well, yeah, this ain't gonna work then πŸ™‚

vernal moth
#

I have to read more about how regex work, I kinda need a wait to properly match this

#

maybe I should just do the arg parsing manually

#

so like, if tag contains :, split at :, then figure out what to do

wide chasm
#

How would you want your inner group to look with multiple inners? Afaik you can't have multiple matches of the same group within the same match, so your inner would contain also the ending and starting quote and the colon in the middle.

#

Doing this manually definitely sounds easier

slim nymph
#

@still smelt you can take any license as a base and modify it to declare that it can not be resold. the GPL is probably the strictess base to go off

#

or AGPL πŸ˜›

#

nothings worse than the AGPL

lament patio
#

I feel like that regex will become troublesome to debug and maintain
