There is ALOT that needs to go into making a shared host "Viable"
and ethical.
Everything from proper resource management, sandboxing, actual "hardware" being described in a package being guarenteed without some other kid running a modded server on your shared host from stealing from him.
There's a reason alot of shared hosts just cheap out and do it the easy way, and why no one wants to do it the hard way to make it right.
The closest shared host I've seen get it right was creeperhost, but I still don't fully agree with their model either. And even then the resources they provided were for a sponsorship so it may not be what the end client gets.
So you'll need I/O limits, Bandwidth limits, Sandboxing, Some scheme of dealing with poor server owners getting a node DDOS'ed, and unless you're giving them direct SSH access you'll need an adequate user interface that can handle all of those requirements for a "Good" service.
And when using shared hosts, you need to consider security, prevent breaching into another users instance via bad plugins traversing the file tree.

So we use sql table to store modified blocks per user, and they're currently stored in one row per block (we're reusing our meta data system). It's relatively fast to fetch so that's not an issue. But, how dumb is this? Should we use blobs or like, idk, text instead?
