You could originally extend(or implement?) InventoryHolder to make an InventoryHolder for when you make an inventory.
Inventory inventory = new Inventory(InventoryHolder) or whatever.
This meant you could make a specific InventoryHolder for your GUI, and to check if a player clicked on your GUI in a player click event, you just had to check if event.getInventoryHolder() == GUI
Easy peasy.
Then they decided nO.
BAD.
They deprecated InventoryHolder and it's being planned that it's going to go kapoof.

Store all of your inventories in a map/set so you can check them later in runtime, or check the names.
Checking names aren't feasible because players can rename inventories in anvils, which can break things.
So we're left to remake parts of the api but.. worse.
