We already got the best old man batman actor
I keep telling you, he's ninety seven years old, and he's dead.
it truely is
next movie "why is Luthor in solitary?" "he kept stealing other inmates desserts" "really?" "yeah, 40 times" "wow, that's terrible"
i would 100% expect Gunn to make that joke
alternative: "why are you in prison?" Lex, sarcastically: "I stole 40 cakes"
Might James Gunn's Superman be the very first Hollywood production that used Gaussian Splats for a VFX shot?
Jordan explains how this VFX achieved something special that would've been impossible with more traditional methods.
rewatched with my sister tonight, still enjoyable, I've mellowed on the parts I didn't like a bit more and still enjoy the good parts. I feel like the banter is a bit rough at points and the starting is very exposition heavy in ti's dialogue.
one thing I didn't point out before but was definitely cemented in the watchthrough is that it feels like Mr Terrific is very Batman coded
and in fact actually says 'I'm goddamned Mr Terrific' at one point
telling me James knew exactly what he was doing
oh, for sure
although I think Mr Terrific as a character is relatively batman coded, something of a batman/ironman hybrid
Insofar as both Batman and Mr. Terrific are human guys who train real hard to be the best at stuff
I was also getting Yondu since he also had a mentally controlled weapon that flew around him at hyper speed.
I'm glad they went Mr. Terrific though, instead of Batman.
If only for the garage door gag.
Gunn clearly has a deep and genuine love for dc, so honestly I think him including characters like mr terrific is at least in part because he's happy he can get away with it
there's also some excellent core differences with the character which probably appeals more than Bats in this context.
the whole "Fair Play" ethos with Terrific kind of makes him stand apart from other "tech" heroes in a lot of media.
it's not just about saving the day but making things better afterwards, community building, social support, etc
I suspect that tickle's Gunn's storytelling a bit (what knowhere ended up being in Guardians relative to the first film I think catches the vibe nicely)
Gunn making the nascent Justice League comprised of Hawkgirl, Mr Terrific and Guy Gardner feels like such a flex. A central narrative choice that screams "its insane these 3 haven't been in a movie yet"
Both Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark are more... capitalistic heroes? genius billionaire playboy philanthropists who're incredibly brilliant and powerful in their settings... but also kind of let the status quo kind of tick onwards?
which has always been a criticism regarding the whole Batman/Gotham dynamic which Mr.Terrific has always been kind of a response to.
which also works really well with Gunn's version of Lex where we're HEAVILY playing into the petty billionaire villain angle.
and a much better contrast that Wayne and Luthor tend to be :>
Batman would also just naturally overshadow most of the movie if he was there
indeed
and lets be honest recent batman/superman tie ins have... muddied the waters of that whole thing a bit ^^
I mean my assumptions is he wanted some cool interesting heroes but not anyone else of the "founded the justice league" 7 or 8 core members.
because they'd all pull focus from supes
Plus, it lets you have them be kind of dipshits and in the wrong for superman to contrast with
I'm just glad we're seeing the b-listers get some play. I miss Justice League Unlimited's unapologetic roster of colorful weirdos. They even had an episode about how they have two stretchy guys!
could we get a JLU style non-edgy Green Arrow?... we can but hope :>
also gave my sister a little background on the characters she wasn't familiar with:
"Guy Gardner's the jackass Green Lantern"
"Mr Terrific is like 'what if Lex Luthor wasn't evil?'"
