Holy cow, already? I think this is the first time in a while I have too much to watch to keep up easily. Definitely not a bad thing!
Yup, was released last night. And hoo boy did the Ambulatory wall get himself into the thick of it. Again.
The most unbelievable thing at the start of the first episode ||Wait... Reacher is driving????||
Most wonderfully wacky, fun, entertaining and uplifting version by the inimitable Ethel Merman, from her Disco LP (1979) which she released age 71.
Just Fabulous!

That 21 minute Pretitle sequence in episode 1. Amazing, but also somehow wrong. Like, it wanted to trick the audience into thinking it wasn't a setup, but there were clues it was a setup too quickly.
But if you wanted the audience to know it was all a setup, then why do it in media res?
It feels better as an end reveal trick rather than an open reveal trick.
Or you interplay the planning with the event.
It would work better if you know that that isn't how Reacher behaves.
Yes, that too. Which works great for S1E1, but not for S3E1
Reacher doesn't carry a hilariously huge wheel gun
And Reacher doesn't panic
It's pretty much riffing from the book.
Gotta say, they're doing a really good job at adapting the novel. Even tweaks and changes are well done and improvements, given the format.
episode 2 (do we use spoilers or not? I always forget. using them just in case) ||RIP Angel Doll. I know he was a bad guy but I liked him as a character||
I mean, the thread is in a section called "Spoiler-alert" so I assume folks coming here are expecting spoilers.
I like that they capture from the books how Reacher is very much not bound by rules. But Alan Ritchson brings much more charisma to play to make it seem less sociopathic than book-Reacher sometimes feels.
I think that the first episode opener works really well.
The whole point is that it's weird how Reacher is acting, that he's got this massive gun, that he's selling these weird albums, that he panics and shoots a cop.
The opening was basically exactly the same in the book. You're meant to be clued in that all is not as it seems.
Why do it in media res? Because it allows you to start the story off with a cool action scene and establish the players and get Reacher into the thick of it before backfilling the explanation.
I know it's only 3 episodes in so far, but this feels like it's hewing closer to the book than Season 1 did.
