I had asked where I would have to drop this. I heard this was the right place. I made a light blue cloak version of the Knight using the sprite sheets for the Custom Knights mod

wanna just quickly warn everyone about the Vengefly king fight, especially in randomizers...
If you kill the vengefly king while he does the animation that stops your movement, you get stuck
as a sort of soft-lock
this will only happen in randomizer runs though
as other runs you'd lose the ability to fight him if you don't do it at the time you fight hornet
you wouldn't have the ability to kill him quickly enough yet
i'm fairly certain this isn't specific to randomizer
Maybe with enemy randomizer but I'm not sure

So I was wondering, what if the Void upgraded your other movement abilities?
I came up with two things that aren't quite as powerful as Shadow Dash, but can still be a neat little thing to have for exploration or, if used right, combat.
Night Flight: 1 second after your Wings let you double jump, they recharge. This would be useful mostly for exploration, as boss arenas don't usually let you fall for an entire second, or if they did it may be more useful to just land and then get your full double jump/pogo off an enemy.
Unrelenting Charge: Crystals turn dark and charge a tiny bit faster. Not much, but enough to be better in combat. You charge thru enemies without getting hit due to becoming shade-like, and the wave does more damage.
Could be used for combat potentially. Mostly just a neat help for the lazy who wanna charge thru a zone
Was wondering what people would think of these.
Instead of aditional jumps, some kind of glide might be better
Holding the jump button in the air would allow you to slowly fall
I like that, how did I not think of that? Yeah, that seems better and more useful than something limited to exploration.

I figured the second phase was a tad too unfair due to rng, so the whole fight is the first fight, really. Dont get hit in first fight + spam ddark = win.
Hm, i think it would be more fun if instead of that, they were all like 50-100ms slower for each move and instead had a bit more hp so you cant just ddark spam
it's doable without ddark, nail only. I'll give a more in depth explanation. Practice, then, if you still have trouble with figuring something out, watch a video to see how others tackle the same problem you keep running into, or ask, or just practice even more to iron out the kinks
even if you do watch a video or ask, getting in there and doing it is the only way you can reliably tackle something, it literally all comes down to practice
i do know its possible but it requires a specific strat / movement / mindset
so it feels a bit trial and error-ish, and doesnt let you be very flexible
also, without ddark, i think you can still facetank a bit
anyways i dont want to really put much into this fight, i just wanted a quick challenge

A recommended first run would be helpful as well
I would assume that by setting something to true it would randomize that setting
So if charms are true it would randomize them but if dreamers are false then the dreamers would be in their normal locations

If vengeful spirit is gone, you probably accidentally clicked for the game to take away that ability. The debug menu has a list of skills that you can toggle on and off. You can find spirit and click on it to have it again

I don't have mono installed globally. I just let steam handle that.
Basically the only way that mono is running on my system is if steam runs it.
so get mono and then use that to run the installer
or install mods manually

Does the mod installer work on Linux?
Because currently it isn't finding the Hollow Knight install directory.
See, the thing is, I can't point the installer to my directory, because the stupid file select dialog doesn't show hidden files.
there should be a "browse" option
so if you can browse to it, even a hidden location, you should be able to select it
you should be able to show hidden files in your file explorer
I don't know much about linux but I'd have to imagine showing hidden folders/files is possible

Because when I tried running the installer with mono, it can't detect the game's install location.
b/c it tries the two windows install locations
it doesn't "detect" your game location
it tries default windows C drive, then windows default D drive install locations
if you say no to both, then you have to tell it where your game is

Because it said: 'FAILED TO LOAD', and then a few lines below that it said RandoMapMod 0.3.4
The line that tells me there was a failure tells me to check ModLog.txt. Anyone know where that is?

I posted a concept for a Warrior Dream gauntlet, fighting at least two at a time and the next spawning in once one falls.
Which bosses would work together okay, and how to set the arenas?
No Eyes + Markoth would be hidiously difficult
as their arenas and abilities dovetail quite interestingly
on the other hand, Marmu would not go well with either arena, as she bounces off the walls
Perhaps the best way to do this is have each pair share a health pool, and despawn one while summoning in their replacement in next.
And probably change the arena if required.
For example, you could start out with Elder Huu and Marmu together.
Once the first health bar is depleted, unspawn Marmu and then bring in Galien.
After the second pair of Elder Huu + Galien have their HP depleted, Elder Huu is unspawned, and then Xero comes in.
Next up is unspawning Galien and bringing Gorb in - and here, change the platforms around to fit Gorb's arena, or some combination of his and Xero's.
Once Xero is dispatched, bring in No Eyes to fight alongside Gorb.
And finally, the dreadful No Eyes + Markoth combo - though having a floor in this last fight of the gauntlet would likely be good in order not to make it too unbalanced, and maybe have better visibility than No Eyes' normal fight.

I have an old asset pack that removes just the spiders crawling on your screen, lemme see if it still works

maybe back up the old one in case it doesn't work for some reason

Does anyone think the Hollow Knight modding community has the capability to expand further beyond slight tweaks and additions
I want something like straight up content packs for it but it's so disappointingly difficult to make custom content because of how the game is made visually

How does the aiming work because that can be a massive deal breaker
hold up to aim up, down to aim down (you can hover) and diagonals are while moving and up/down
keep in mind that it's version 1.0.0*.0*
making custom levels is still in infancy so you probably aren't gonna really get any bigger than stuff like lightbringer, and maybe some other up and coming mod. stuff takes time and a collab of people to come together and tackle
Very disappointing games like these just don't have large mod communities
I understand it's very difficult to make something that fits with the assets of the base material but it's still a shame

modding staff needs to band together and release a battle pass, money will be the incentive

So, I'm playing the Randomizer 3. I just defeated False Knight. I picked up the City Crest, and the game softlocked. I can't move the Knight, and no inputs work at all.
I can't bring up the menu at all.
Music is still playing just fine.
I can see birds flying in the foreground, like normal.
quit out and relog is fine?
i've had that happen before with some type of storage i think anyway relogging just fixes it

I tried three times to pick up the city crest. Three times it softlocked the game and stopped accepting input.
Then I fought the False Knight a 4th time, and benchwarped out. The gates are down, but I still can't pick up the city crest.

i had a similar issue with getting to the overgrown mound to get howling wraiths. i was able to get there, but i had to do a bunch of pogoing off of enemies which i wouldve thought counted as a soft skip
i see your required progression now , i just totally missed it
still however i'm unsure as to why it says you can reach it currently if you have mild skips off
i looked at the logic on homothetyhk's github, and what you did to get to the top of the city is in logic and does not require any skips. but weirdly, the pogo off of the background object that they do to get to the watcher knights in any% does count as a mild skip as i would expect
there's an error in the logic on github, which im assuming is the current logic
afaik there's no external way he requires bug submissions but if you want to you could message him directly, up to you

couple options:
- try a different seed and see if it happens again
- Try to manually install the linux API that's on the google drive
- clear your registry entries for hollow knight (very unlikely this would be needed, but it's kind of a nuke option)

Im having a problem with the game when it comes to mods, it seems like whenever I install mods and use them, the game starts to lag like crazy. It keeps up the FPS, but whenever I kill an enemy there is at least a second of lag, its gotten me killed a bunch of times, and also it takes nearly 30 - 40 seconds to load the next level when the game for me is on an SSD. Before the mods it was fine but now it chugging
Any tips on how to reduce this stuff?
I only have Benchwarp, QoL, Unoffical, EnemyHPBar, CustomKnight and debugmod

I was thinking about making a custom knight sprite sheet, but I was a little turned off by how confusingly laid out it all is. I found a set of images that label each sprite, but they are still all over the place, and it would be difficult to add animations to.
So, I had the thought to make a quick script that "decompiles" the sprite sheet into individual images that you can more easily edit frame by frame, and then recompile them when you're done. Would this be useful? Has work like this already been done?

For 4 days, my best friend and I have been working on a mod for HK. The mod is a balance overhaul focusing on Charms. As a matter of fact, we believe that a lot of Charms are either too weak or overly situational. For those you are try-harding Godhome, you know what I mean.
We have good notions about Game Design and Game Art, but, unfortunately, none in coding. Therefore, we are seeking your help 🙂 The Patch is pretty dense, so we don't expect one single person to help us on everything. Anyway, any piece of help would be nice, we just want to make the game even more perfect than it already is :D

this looks pretty okay on paper, my biggest issue with balance is here with base nail this is gonna get outta hand really quickly, cause the game is centered around nail and spell charms 2nd this makes charms kinda first but more to play with, so i would suggest taking a bat to base nail as a result tbh, otherwise people are gonna run through bosses like a hot knife through butter

I don't get why it would be centered around nail beyond the upgrades. This patch proposes precisely to make other builds more viable. Also because the damage are scaling, they won't be high in early-mid game.

I tried to make most charms viable in late-game, which isn't the case right now, and I though these changes for most players, even if it's hard, rather than trying to make it good just for top 5% players such as myself.

nail is worse than spell, so imo instead of trying to make more builds nail builds should be balanced to be as good as spell builds

Sharp Shadow is damage on top of your regular damage, poisons (i assume you're talking about Spore Shroom) isn't really that useful because the damage isn't too high and only effects an area, Dreamshield is just bad
if you want to balance around a dreamshield or "poison" build, you'd have to nerf the nail and spells to use them and buff the other thing
They're not central game mechanics
cuz if you don't, you're just making the player stupid strong

@weak plinth Other builds have their own weaknesses, I thought it all this way. For example, Lifeblood allow no heal, poison requires to focus which makes you vulnerable, etc.

@foggy ore Again, I don't think they are. You are only seeing it by your own experience. Most players don't make it to Godhome, only a few do or able to do the late game. It's not easy, it's just good for you.
so if all you're doing is buffing alternative dps sources, you have to nerf the main two as a trade off
going solely of steam achievements is not a good way of judging a player's average skill

Why, you can't equip everything at the same time. Also nail builds require to master the patterns of every boss, which is time consuming.
only 67% of players beat False Knight, there's also the whole steam users having massive backlogs

Steam achiev was just an illustration. I read many posts complaining about the game difficulty, and I'm also personally struggling while trying non-nail/spell builds even with my current level (I beat the 4th pantheon, doing bindings now).
Soul eater only cost 3 and it gives more souls than before against multiples enemies, what are you talking about? Plus the fact that ytou don't have to hit to get souls. Makes a big diff

That's not how you think a build. If you nerf soul generation, you will eventually cast less spells, which lead to less damage, overall.
Though, I though about removing the increase size of shade soul on Shaman Stone, but removing it removes the multi-hits on a lot of bosses.
spell twister basically gives you a free 3 hits of soul per 9 hits, soul catcher would have to something like 11 hits to achieve the same result
But it doesn't give soul that is used also for healing purposes, which can be a big deal. But I agree, spell twister is really good.
You can't expect a charm looted in the early game to make you cast twice as more spells or so.

Spells are good even without shaman stone. Vengeful spirit is a nice aoe with screen range. Nail is about 0.1 mm range (kidding).

@errant lance Just removing the size increase would break double hits because Shade soul could no longer hit multiple times. But it could kinda make the spell way weaker than now.
Also flukenest is a tough case because just re-increasing the damage makes it a weapon for murder against some bosses. 3 notches to change your basic shade soul for a shotgun is way too expensive.
also we have to look at why people struggle at the game in the first place

I was playing on Junk Pit Easy, and my first vertical movement (Wings) was at the Pale Ore in Basin. Luckily I was able to do the skip, but looking at the logic, shouldn't that not have been possible to be there without Spicy Skips enabled?

Hello! I had a question regarding HK mods. Is it even possible for a mod to forces HK active window to stay active even if you alt+tab so that controller goes through even if you alt tab?
I was wondering if this is something a modding can fix or if this is something I have to try to figure out from the Windows. I've dug tons and it seems like Windows are not able to do this function even with 3rd party software.

I'm trying to force HK window to be active in a foreground (as done in some games) so that when the HK window is not active, the controller inputs still go through
Apparently it's dependent on game developers to include this function or not

I'm working on a... complicated project. I currently have 3 players to 1 controller gaming on Hollow Knight. Everything is successful except I just would like to stream this on twitch and alt tab while people push input to my PC
Kinda super hard to explain what I've done in 1 sentence, but I made it work, and just would like to alt tab and have the controller inputs still go through even if the window is not active

ya but there was a feature to allow certain keyboard inputs to go through to certain windows that would be super. 😄 Like Livesplit uses global key commands so that inputs go through on that program

Ya i mean if Livesplit can do global hotkeys as well as other games, it probably is possible. I'm only an amateur Python coder so I would have to do tons of research and still would fail lol
the simplest way I can think of would be to receive inputs on one PC, and then output those to another PC that's running just the game

I have OBS + HK running on one PC, and would like to control OBS strictly. I would also run click on certain things (joining channels) in Discord to allow viewers to hear the runners. 😕 Just need a quick Alt+tab, which might be problematic for runners

Hi. I'm using the mod that allows me to warp anywhere and also deploy benches. The problem is after I deploy benches I can't use them.
@weak plinth Just wanted to update ya. After you gave me the physical hardware idea, I think I found super long-winded solution. To sum, If I use Stream Deck's built in global key feature + Voicemeeter mod that was introduced last year, it would work. Basically, I got a Voicemeeter VBAN to receive Discord Team1's channel from Computer A. I also got Discord Team2's channel from Computer B (directly). I would then have 2 discord accounts logged into each one's voice channel. I would then press Mute on/off on streamdeck to just hear team 1 or team 2 separately. My mic would be all connected to both channels via Voicemeeter VBAN, so both teams would hear me commentating. Solved!
