There should be no air mechanic, as the moment spiders are submerged they begin suffocating, your "air meter" will be your masks (don't worry, you don't get knockback like this). There will be an upgrade you can get that isn't weaverborn that lets you turn the soul in your silk into air, letting you breath off your silk meter before you begin losing masks, and every underwater area past that will include copious amounts of enemies

my advice is you can obliterate 90% of hard fights by learning their vulnerabilities, some bosses take near double damage from certain damage types. Also clearing out early game encounters for xp to level your party really helps
