You can change to using HKMP though, which does have a skin-system similar to CK

Either you have the skin in an extra folder, you forgot ModCommon, or you're trying to use skins with Hollow Point / Lightbringer (which don't work with skins)

It means to choose the location of your hollow knight game files. If you don't know where that is go to steam library >right click HK > select properties > local files > and browse. This'll open the exact folder the installer wants you just need to find the file path and lead the installer down that path

I've rarely seen that but some mods will have strange effects on saves so backing em up is a good choice. The best way to back em up is to just navigate to your saves folder and create copies of the files and put them into a folder somewhere

so this is the only issue i have encountered with this so far because it was working perfectly fine up until the new api update, but anyways. as it stands my modding api is completely busted, ive downloaded and deleted it at least 5 times to fix the problem to no avail. i try running the api and while it works at first, upon loading the game, none of the mods actually work at all, and then i check my file intergrity and it always says there is a broken file, even upon steam's "fix". is there something i am missing?

So I have a few mods installed and I was wondering if anyone knew if any of them shorten animations? I first noticed it with Soul Master, that the first time I fought him I didn't get his normal entry animation, he just showed up like I'd already fought him before, and it just happened again with Broken Vessel, I didn't get to see the animation where the lightseeds animate it. Has anyone else noticed that with any mods?

Also I don't know if it's related but I've noticed when downloading mods that require other mods, like randomizer, if the mod was already installed, instead of keeping it installed and untouched. It uninstalls it.

To install it, start by unzipping the folder and opening the folders until you find a couple Assembly-CSharp dlls, then set that folder aside and head to your steam library, right click hk > select properties > local files > browse, and navigate to the Managed folder, iirc for linux it's \Hollow Knight\hollow_knight_Data\Managed\, then move the Assembly-CSharp files into the games managed folder and overwrite the existing ones. Then you should be good

Some, but many you can't, you would need to use the mod installer to disable/uninstall them. (But that doesn't take very long.)

So you would basically decide what mods you're playing with before you open HK, make those changes on your mod installer, then open HK, so you're adding like an extra minute ish at most of you're making loads of changes.

Having borderless windowed mode as an option in the menu is a difference, but you can add a command in Steam to make it run like that. Or I believe you might be able to just press Alt+enter in the main menu.

I'm having trouble with using the "Daughter of Hallownest" Skin. I've downloaded it, added what's inside the zip folder (not the actual zip folder itself) to my other CustomKnight skins that work perfectly fine, but whenever I load up my game and try to use the skin from the pause menu, it just leaves me with the default Knight skin. Fwiw, More Saves shouldnt cause an issue.
The reason more saves messes with some mods, is because the extra text it creates isn't being properly destroyed when leaving the menu, so it just invisibly floats in front of stuff- but that just prevents buttons from being clicked altogether (which didn't appear to be their issue; and it shouldn't effect text over there anyway).

That being said, 2) could just be replaced with "Hollow Point / Lightbringer" lol

Having some issues with losing inputs, but I don't think it's related to FPS. The last 2 randos I've done I noticed movement on the taskbar with the HK icon. When this happens, the window is temporarily de-selected (thus rendering my inputs obsolete). this only seems to last for one frame. Very rarely will it affect a button press, but stopping in my tracks every minute or less is annoying at best. I haven't been able to find anything resembling this sort of issue and I haven't had time this workweek to see if it happens with other Steam games. If anyone can take a look and see if they notice something I don't it would be much appreciated.

At 2:33 the HK icon in the taskbar shifts itself from between the other icons and relocates to the far right, indicating it is the most recently launched. Screenshot (from 7:34) showing that the HK window registers as "Not Responding" and the 'X' at the top right of the window is highlighted red. This lasted for a single frame but the red 'X' is what initially caught my eye while streaming. https://imgur.com/0VNHqrv

you could always try deleting your registry for HK just to be sure. The latest input based issues I've seen recently have been fixed by this.

Reading the message would go a long way. It doesn’t say you need the latest version. It says you need the most recent stable version.
