Hey guys, I downpatched to Lifeblood to play the charm/ability randomizer alongside the enemy randomizer, but now I'm just getting a black screen with the ingame cursor. Any idea whats going on?
I was able to launch the lifeblood version fine before I installed the modding API, but now even without any mods installed, only the API, it keeps the black screen.
did you install the correct API?
you'll have to install it manually since you downpatched
the installer will put in the godmaster API, which won't work on lifeblood

@covert oasis If you're not upgraded to the gills, some bosses requires you to hit them literally hundreds of times (while dodging hundreds of their attacks). I've had attempts take 15 mins plus. Honestly, it gets boring. Adding a HP bar to my playthrough has made it a little less tedious.

Howdy, after installing the mod api and the health bar mod (using the pinned .exe in this chat), I have been having occasional problems with textures not loading in, followed by crashes.
Is this a normal problem?

there were a few texture errors in the past
but those were not mod related
and had more to do with file corruption
so idk
I think it might be due to me failing to install the mod api right before (I eventually succeeded through using the updated link). I probably will just reainstall (the game) and see. Was hoping to avoid reinstalling (the game) if it was just a common issue haha.

probably not all things considered. Unfortunately there's no easy ways to get the correct version of mods for older patches
you can download older versions from the drive by viewing version history

i'm trying to install the debug mod for 1.4.2.4. I tried to follow the ReadMe but it was unclear. I put the debug-master folder into the "hollow knight" steam folder, the one where hollowknightdata is located, but that didn't work, so i tried extracting it into the hollowknightdata folder but that didn't work either, so i tried extracting it into the hollow knight steam folder and that didn't work either. Does anyone know where i'm supposed to put the files?

I asked and was told there was a HK mod that let you see enemy/boss health in some manner (health bars, numbers, I'm not sure), but he wasn't sure if it's been updated to the latest patch. Can anyone confirm or deny any of this? Would be a nice thing to have to know how much of a boss I have left to finish off instead of hoping they'll die soon instead of me.

Is there a more up-to-date version of the modding API? 1.3.1.5 beta's Assembly-CSharp.dll crashes the game after the first couple of splash screens, and I have to replace it with the current .dll to get it back running, but no mods folder appears with that...

If you fall down a pit, spikes, any kind of environmental hazard that makes you "disappear" and respawn on a platform, the boss' health bar disappears. A problem for a boss like, say, Ascended Xero. It's good/functional otherwise though. Thought I'd let someone know that though

I installed the API like normal and it stopped my controller working, but the game at least booted correctly and was playable with keyboard, but adding the debug mod dll to the mods folder causes the title screen to have nothing other than the Hollow Knight logo

Hey im back and i think my save file is a little bit bugued. In #hk-help i gave a little bit long explanation of my problem so im going to resume. I already beat the first two trials of thr colisseum a long time ago and i wanted to do the third but it asks me to do the first ones. When i do the first, they give me the money but the door doesn't open. If i quit i keep the geo but im in the same situation. In #hk-help told me to ask here how to noclip to get out

sigh well, to start, I had a remnant of a previous, failed API I tried to install in the game. I deleted that, did a fresh install of the game. Installed Mon Manager again, tried the EnemyHPBar on it, same issue. I then uninstalled the ModManager's Enemy HP bar, installed that one manually, went to the Xero fight and...still the same issue. I... I dunno anymore. ๐คท

another thing I did was optimize the remaining hp bar after the enemy has been killed
now it only checks for a bool value

so, here's how I do it
hp.ToString() == "0"
whenever an enemy dies, I disable its bar; then I instantiate a placeholder enemy with its position and hp; then I let that placeholder's hp drain
but what if the hp is -1, you need to check all values of hp from -50 to 0 sean

you could just have a normal HPbar class that you instantiate for every enemy instead of adding it as a component
I mean, I do add it as a component, but only because I just copied the code from regular enemies
but I don't add placeholders for bosses
I could, AA, but it's easier to get the enemy's properties if it's a component
position, hp and such
it also makes it easier to update and control the hpbar

otherwise I'd have to run a check every frame to see if the enemy is alive, for every enemy on the screen, and then, if it is, update their bars
but if I use the enemy's Update, I don't have to worry about that
at first, I did just that
I had a class
and for every enemy the player hit, I'd instantiate that class with a ref to the enemy
I'd also add that enemy to a list of active enemies
and then I'd have to check every frame if each enemy on the list was still alive, so I could update its HP
so uh I have an alternative question then

given you use a different approach which makes a lot of sense all things considered. Consider hooking on the enemy death function in healthmanager?

Xero and No Eyes at least...their HP bars remain after falling on the environmental hazards
so, when the enemy dies it takes its hpbar with it
so when that hook is called, I get the enemy's pos and hp values, and create a placeholder enemy with those
then I let it drain

but since it's not an actual enemy, it doesn't actually die when its hp is 0
so I have a check that basically looks for placeholders only, and kills those when they have 0 hp
before it was if (go.name == "New Game Object") now it's simply if (isPlaceholderEnemy) which is a flag I set when creating the placeholder
